Hi folks,
Well, i was drawn into the Pacer-mania here too. I bought the package and was first impressed, then a bit disappointed and after installing the patch impressed again. Let me tell you what my 2 cents are:
After a quick spin around the block i found the behaviour of that bird a wee bit sluggish. Heavy as a bag of cement and responsive to inputs like a pregnant duck. I soon found out that my Saitek-Cessna yoke had to be adjusted for the Pacer and now it responds to aileron inputs as it should. Rudder pedals should also be adjusted to more sensitivity, that leads to more quick reactions on the ground as well as during the t/o run. Anyway, the Pacer can really be flown "to the numbers", i have found pireps in the depths of the internet and i'm impressed that the Pacer addon matches the descriptions there well. One has to think "Cessna 172" instead of "Supercub" and treat the Pacer accordingly. Now i'm happy with my flying.
Then i noticed the ignition key not working, but that was a minor problem for me because i'm using the Saitek switch panel.
Now after installing the update patch, i find the Pacer acting like a charm. I second Dieters (kdl) report of the appearance of the old style gauges too, i find them not so crisp, but that's a personal impression. Therefore i like the "bush-panel" very much. It reflects an old fifties plane flown in the twentyfirst century in a pefect way and with the possibilities to switch the panels between models, there is plenty of playground here.
And that implementation of the bush-panel leads to a discovery which is probably very usefull to any of the repainters here:
In the folder "Piper_Pacer_LHC_180" (the standard tail dragger) you have a panel folder for the bush panel. It contains only the alias to the bush panel in the bush wheel version. Now if you change any of the versions to the bush panel, the plane disappears from the FSX menu completely. But cross checking with the FS Repaint programme shows me that nothing is wrong with the aircraft.cfg entires. What the heck ...
I copied the entire bush panel folder from the bush wheel version into the standard taildragger directory, thus overwriting the config that aliases. Now the altered standard tail draggers with the implemented bush panel show up the way they should. Now with that issue setteled i can start repainting ...
Well, the Pacer is worth the bucks. Of course it does not sport Carenado style textures nor has it RealAir flight dynamics. But it gives you plenty of variants and paints, it flies easy with no frills but gives an experienced flight simmer enough work to drive it down correctly. It's not a beginners aircraft but well balanced and challanging for the backcountry and bush flying enthusiast.
I may sum up my remarks with this: It's not A2A, it's not Carenado, it's not RealAir. It's Lionheart!
Well done Bill, thanks a lot!
Cheers,
