Planes I'm surprised have never shown up in FS9

Those C-117s had some of the most colorful paint jobs of any military transport. They would indeed make a welcome addition to anyone's DC-3/C-47 fleet.

Yep, in addition to being the basis aircraft for Millardair out of Toronto. As far as the turbo Daks go, there are also three engined versions, Garrett and Dart-powered examples, and (IIRC) Mamba, Naiad and Eland-powered test aircraft. Lots of potential there...

Y'know I'm surprised we've never seen a Bede BD-4. I'd think it'd be pretty easy to make being all right angles and squarish proportions.
A couple of other planes I would like to see:
Aeronca 15AC Sedan (think widened 4-place Citabria)
Marco J-5 Motorglider (this one's truly obscure but it is a beautiful homebuilt design)
Schleicher ASK-21M (self-launching sailplane with the retractable motor and prop)

And I would love to see a Schleicher ASK16 motorglider. One of the most beautiful small planes I know (and actually co-flew a couple of times in real life; the ASK16 concerned D-KAXE based at Eschwege-Stauffenbühl, Germany). A real classic and quite rare!

Cheers,
Maarten

Saaay, what kind of tweaks are we talking about? The error message I got implies it has something to do with the way the mdl files are set up (FSX native). That said, if we can get this working in FS9 it would be downright awesome.

Maarten, that ASK-16 is indeed beautiful. I know that Wolfgang Piper politely declined my idea for an ASH-26E (the one with a retractable prop) but maybe he could be persuaded into doing the ASK-16. After all he did do the Scheibe SF-25 series...
I also noticed recently that he had speed polar information for the ASW-19. Maybe it's in the works?

Is the Dr in? I've converted one set of .dds textures to .bmp, but haven't installed it in FS9 yet. If you've got it running in FS9 you've switched the textures, obviously - I figure I can find a fairly large twin turbo with roughly the same performance (turbo Caribou?), and use the air file from that until the original is rewritten if needed.

What snags specifically have you encountered when installing in FS9?

I got an error message implying the mdl file was not compatible. I never thought of changing the .dds textures to .bmp but I didn't get that far--I downloaded it, put the gauges in the panel folder and put the whole deal in my aircraft folder. I'll come back with screenshots showing the error messages when I get back from work tonite.
BTW, it was Thunder100 who got it working in FS9.

I tried it without textures or panel just to see if the model would load. Got the error message saying "Flight Simulator unable to load...model/Basler.MDL".

I even tried taking out the interior model and editing the model config, still no luck.

Nice thread, some nice ideas Gentlemen...

The ASK16 - what a pretty little aircraft indeed Maarten. :wavey:

I'd still really love to see a super model of the Fairey Swordfish and reckon the DH Mosquito deserved more attention.

I know there is an older one for FS2004 that ports to FSX, but I am surprised that with a gazillion 737s, DC9s and Airbuses about there is not a state-of-the-art Vickers VC-10 with a proper "VC" :icon_lol:
