PMDG 737 NGX released!

Finally got the download link and got her installed and in the air....one word, though not strong enough....Wow!

Matt

I started working the first tutorial last night. Amazing is another word that springs to mind. How on earth did they pack so much detail and systems modeling into a package that's so light on frame rates? Seriously, I'm not seeing much difference between the NGX and some of my light GA planes. It's a phenomenally well-done aircraft all around.

Their systems programming is awesome.. Although even following the directions i've yet to get vnav to work. One major letdown for me however, is that in changing from full screen to windowed mode, the graphics will become completely messed up. The entire scene will disappear, the background will disappear, the clouds get flattened and cartoonish, and sometimes most of the plane will disappear.. I dont know if its interference from ASE or what, but for me, its a real letdown.. Wish they had left direct X alone..Gotta admit that although i dont like Arianes support I'm seriously wanting my arianes back after this.. On a positive note, the IFly still works like its supposed too..

Very fluid for me using the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T. Getting about 45FPS and that's going past Portland Int OR.

Very impressed so far, downloaded and installed without a problem, grab the liveries I wanted and set off from BOS to JFK. The only instruction being the take-off video on AOA.

Apart from not programming the FMC properly for the route it went really well, frame-rates were great, the plane flies really easily and looks amazing.

I've yet to get VNAV working either, although I did manage to get some autopilot functionality to do what I expected it to do and I haven't yet read the manuals properly.

The thing that stumped me initially though was figuring out how their livery manager works!

You can choose different setups for when it loads. I set it to cold and dark but yes there's an option with the engines running and everything turned on.

Thankfully due to its modern-ness its not hard to learn.

Thanks!

Rick

I haven't found the option to start w/engines running yet. Tried loading the "short turn" panel state, but my engines were still off. It put a crimp in working through the tutorial, because it assumes you're set up and ready to fly before starting. I'm hoping this is just me misunderstanding the setup, and not a bug. It probably is.

Dang fellas, where's all the screenies for this toob. Sounds like a pretty good buy, but I have to get the T-38 first. Sounds like the framerates are pretty good. How do they compare to CaptainSim toobs?

I never had much trouble w/the Captain Sim planes, but this one runs better for me.

I freakin LOVE the kulula livery!!!!! I have photo's of the real aircraft on my FB and love it!

I have to say that PMDG always sets the bar high, and this time, that bar is in orbit! Its a shame i dont like flying the tubes. Too many switches!!!! Ill stick with low and slow for now, but GREAT JOB PMDG! Let the screenshots flow!!!

Here's a screenie from my first real flight with her, KORD to KSAN. Click it for the native resolution version. Notice the First Officers screens are turned off to save FPS. You can control each screen's refresh rate as well as the HGS's refresh rate. So there are plenty of ways to scale down this plane if you don't have an overclocked i7 at 30 GHz and a GTX9999 graphics card.

Pam, are you running the HIGHMEMFIX=1 tweak in your fsx.cfg? That looks like the corruption I used to get before I started using it.

warchild
By the way do you use a nvidia card? The second screen is know to be a bug with the latest driver 275.33, witch the common symptom is the replication of textures like what can be seen in your second screen.

Highmemfix is set to 1, yup,, but..
I'm also running the latest nvidia drivers..

Joy oh joy..

UPDATE:: rolling the graphics drivers back has fixed the problem.. I also discovered that something had gone in and turned highmemfix off.. Grrrrr... Thank you PMDG for not messing with my files.. It flies and looks lovely now..

This is impressive aircraft from PMDG. I have the FSX iFly 737NG with the FS2Crew2010 module installed and loving it. So it will be sometime before I decide pick this one up.

Pam,

You can still get the previous driver (v270.61) from the nvidia.com downloads area. It's hidden under "Beta and archived drivers". Although I don't (and don't intend to) own the PMDG 737, I do fly other new aircraft that are plagued by the same nvidia bug and have experienced no issues whatsoever.

Good luck,
Mike

I'm finding this aircraft to be the perfect complement for the IFly offering.. In many ways, the PMDG is easier to fly and manage. Things actually almost work the way you would expect them too ( sorry, I got spoiled on Arianes early on and their sticklishness for making you work through every bloody boring detail of flight prep..)
The IFly provides me with a properly done BBJ ( three actually ) and PMDG offers the plane 800/900s.. Its a perfct marriage.. Even if the two companies dont want to admit it..

Pam

I'm think in the same lines as you are Pam... I like the 600 series which iFly has and PMDG with its incredible amount of repaints offered. Looks like I need both! -Ted

The only thing im having issues with the PMDG is the brakes:icon_lol: In the FMC unit there is a option for Steel or Carbon. What is the difference? I do love the Hud in the PMDG over the Ifly. Overall like Pam it's a perfect companion to the Ifly.
