Qucik Processor Question!

Richard Westcott

Charter Member 2011
My PC is located in my office/workshop which is a cold outbuilding.

The past few days when when I have started my computer I have noticed the CPU temperature is down to -2 degrees, the computer then takes a couple of attempts to boot up.

I do not get any warnings or errors, but I was wondering if I could possibly damage the pc at these temperatures.

Any advice apprieciated.

Thanks

It depends on what processor you have,I have cooled a processor with Nitrogen to be able to operate at 5.8 GHz. Your hard drive is really a problem unless it is a solid state disk. The bearings and motor don't like extreme temps. The other problem is the possibility of condensation in your case as it warms up from -2 degrees...curious is that C or F?

I'd be very careful getting any condensation in it. You could possibly lose the PSU, HDDs, and GFX card. That's why when you clean it with canned air they say "don't shake the can". ;)

You aren't getting a good reading...the processor even in a 40deg room won't go that low....even a 20 deg room. Even if it is water cooled...Ted has got the right idea on the Nitrogen but I haven't seen to many of them.

Thanks guy's, my room temperature averages about 5 deg C first thing in the morning, the processor was -1 deg C, I think I will have to put the heating on for a time before I switch the pc on.

Can't wait till the spring!

Just leave it on all the time...Won't hurt a thing..then its warmed up ready to go....And no moisture worries.....
