Repaint for Piglet's A-12A Avenger II

Thanks, Tommy ...;)

Re Tim's original/s I'd certainly include any and all references to source work/s....that's a given.

The increase to 4096 res gives me the chance to do a lot more in 'fine detail' 4 pixels per pixel ... so I still want to 'clean' up the colour boundaries...eg blue/white....red/white etc so zooming in can be more 'fun', but that's going to take 'some time', mostly because I didn't do enough of the linework in layers...so it's pixel-pushing-time.

Here's another shot ...bit newer. The air intakes look a bit like a 'shark' so I added eyes....
The graphic to the rear of the canopy is from the Aliens dropship ... "We Endanger Species" [always got a giggle out of that]. SQN badges are No.2 RAAF Amberley [it IS 'what if'] and RAAF, and the yellow linework around the canopy glass was a REAL PAIN as the model does horrible things to it in places, but at the graphic scale all sorts of text info can be added. I haven't really touched anything other than the main a12a-01 and its equivalent LM....
But....there's always more to do....;)

Being an American icon, you should probably remove Marylin.

....The increase to 4096 res gives me the chance to do a lot more in 'fine detail' 4 pixels per pixel ...,

I run Photoshop C5, and my CPU / system struggles to load / save 4096 res files. If I have to load a second file of that size to "cut and paste" between the files, it's simply not going to happen.....that takes the fun out of repainting for me.....:blind:

I run WinXP Home with 4 GB ram (3 GB usable); just not enough horsepower to keep up with the big boys....:costum:

Ah....GTX590 here and 12 gig of ram, SSD et al. Loading more than one image [PSP] isn't so much of an issue...but unlimited 'undos' soon sees things getting iffy....only because it's a small SSD [60gig]....stepping up to a 256 or so soon.

Spent the arvo 'cleaning' the borders between colour stripes....and now I'm not as happy with the panel lines....
Poor old DXTBmp has a hard time switching/loading 4096's .... but you can always reread War and Peace in the interim.

.....Poor old DXTBmp has a hard time switching/loading 4096's ....

How did i forget about that one......:isadizzy:

Yeah, that's pretty much the kiss of death on my rig; that is just a morale buster when you've got family breathing down your neck to get off of the computer, and you are just sitting there waiting for DXTBmp to do its thing on a 4096 file.....:blind:

I have started to save up for a new rig, but it will be over a year until I save up for something decent; I am going to finally retire my WinXP Home Edition and move onto Windows 7 64 bit at that point. Might just go back to FS2004 (the good old days) and save some bucks, time, and frustration.....:icon_lol:

I should add that FSX runs just fine and smooth on my current rig; it's Photoshop that ruins the day.

Tommy

I guess I am going to have to upload 'something' sooner or later.....
One thing I've always messed with was USAF Thunderbirds graphics..... did a Thud, even a Tonka ....and now the Avenger....though it's easy in some respects it isn't like a 'normal' aircraft planform [stating the bleeding obvious]....
....but it sort of worked OK. I just need to think up something for the stars placement ....;)

I thought about doing a Thunderbird scheme too, but didn't want to mess with religion... I figured if I really wanted to get nasty, I'd place Navy pilots in those jets too..:icon_lol:

I also started a Blue Angels scheme (a bunch of them), but put it on the back burner as I didn't get the warm and fuzzy on the graphics that I came up with.

There was going to be an USAF version of the A-12, as the Navy was supposed to get a Naval version of the ATF, the NATF as well. The Air Force variant would have differed from the Navy variant in not having folding wings and with the exhaust above the wing, not below it. The Air Force, with it's stealth experience over the years, especially with the F-117, knew it's aircraft would usually fly above 20K ft, so they wanted their exhaust shielded from below. Whereas the Navy, not having as much experience with stealth, felt they would still need NOE capability and therefore wanted their exhaust shielded from above.

Nice paints. On the T-Bird and Blue Angels paints, are you going to paint the pilots? (Red flight suit with red/white helmets for the T-Birds, and blue flight suits with yellow helmet for the Blues.)

Yes, the helmets and suits are revised also.

The quirky bits of the model are a pain in the bum when you try skinning at such a high res....literally per pixel. The 'nose' is particularly iffy....at 4096 I'm still a half pixel out in places....the law of diminishing returns....;p

Still having fun with the Avenger....
Had a go at reworking the Sundowners into 4096 ....with a few tweaks.....

Very nice work on the Sundowners; I didn't think any one would be reworking these repaints, but I'm happy to see these and a bunch of new ones coming on line for the Avenger.

I was thinking of revisiting my Jolly Rodgers repaint as I always felt the overall graphics looked a bit to predictable. Still mulling over my Blue Angels repaints too; I am just not satisfied with what I've got so far.

.....That black pointy nose was a pain....;)

That and the wings leading edge texture mapping has dashed many of my paint schemes; but that forced me to think outside of the box and go in directions that I would have not considered else wise.

Tommy

I'd certainly be interested on your take on the Angels styling. When it's quasi-imaginary....just 'relating' to real aircraft paints.....there's so many ways one can go.....

Now.....if the Avenger was going to be in Oz service there's no reason it couldn't end up at Sale....... [a WIP]

Once I finish finding new 'tweaks' to add to them all...I'll do something about uploading....;p

OK.....these two are finished [I need to stop somewhere]....will submit them once I've contacted Tim to verify specific permissions for these repaints...[I've skinned the Windows GUI for decades, but this is my first FSX upload - so I'll make sure I'm not stepping on toes, etc. FIRST]....;)

Added a few more 'bits' to that one....

....and that, too...;)

Meanwhile......Red Arrows........

I'd certainly be interested on your take on the Angels styling.....

Oddly enough, this repaint started off as an attempt to do a crazy a** Aztec paint scheme based the ancient "aircraft" artifact shown below. Needless to say, I didn't get far with that paint scheme, and it somehow started to evolve into the Blue Angels paint scheme. You can see the influence of the Aztec "aircraft" in the Blue Angels paint scheme shown below. I also wanted to incorporate the duel yellow stripes from their uniforms into the paint scheme while emphasizing the triangular shape of this new aircraft; it just kind of work out with that Aztec aircraft deal. The aircraft paint scheme is what I would call directional, in that you have to fly the aircraft relative to your intended audience, or the text on the aircraft will appear upside down. At first I didn't like the directional issue, but the more I thought about it the more I thought that the Blue Angels could pull this off. This is pretty much where I left it, before I moved on to other repaints / aircraft......
