Revisiting the Cloud 9 Phantom porting issue..

Creepy at post #105

Anyone know which gauge and vc panel entries one should use to get the green, round radar in the VC?? I get the orange/red on e (with no data) that I think is from the AS phantom but like this one better.

Thanks.
I hope this helps..gauge31=Alpha_A6!RADAR1, 401,223,204,203,VC

gauge19=F16!Radar, 402,225,200,196,VC ///default 402.225.196.196
gauge20=F16!Radar, 844,212,134,120
gauge21=F16!Radar Mode, 218,450,20,20
gauge22=F16!Radar Range, 192,450,20,20

Nice screens all!

Got my model issues sorted (thanks Dumonceau!!) - wow - what a plane! On my clapped out system I'm averaging 25 fps ... I'm stoked. The exterior model compares with the AS/V pack 3 Phantoms - but the VC is on a whole different level - SF8 Sabre level, in my view. Pure buckets of awesome, at least as a portover goes. Question: re: formation (slime) lights.

On the high-vis paints, I see a "slit" of scenery visible through the slime lights. Anyone else getting this? Low vis paints (where these should be present, they appear as proper slime lights.

thanks all!

DL, try to replace the C9F4_Lights.bmp file from that high-vis paint with one from a camo paint (like the one in the cloud9 Phantom CLEAN\texture folder). It should look like this, the slime light texture is in the upper left corner.

Yes, that did the trick on the first attempt, many thanks!

Unfortunately I've been very late coming to this party. I have the F-4 installed in FSX Accel with the canopy glass mods together with those for the drag chute, slats and canopies. Thank you all for publishing them. When I follow the links to app box it tells me those files are no longer available, will there a full package uploaded to SOH soon please?

I can try - but if I understand you correctly - that will enable the low vis slime lights to be visible.

In Zsolt 's high vis repaints, he's masking off the area so to speak, to try and hide them. And it works perfectly when I view the from the right side. But when I view the plane from left, I see the sky/ground through the 3 slits.

It it only happens on the high vis paints, so I agree it's to do with those lights - but why does it only work on one side ? Odd...

thx,

Quick question, does anyone have thumbnails for all the default paints? I can make them my self but what a pain lol. If not I will just have to endure the pain and suffering :) I am having a blast with this model though it seems like the roll rate is a little fast. I never flew a real phantom but all the video I see of them they seem to roll a bit slower than the fs model.

You need to search for and use the "autothumb" app. Two quick clicks mid flight - just like taking a screenshot and its in your UI menu. Use it all the time.

Lighting tweaks

Anyone give the lights section the shockwave treatment?

Particularly after POSKY/TDS radically changed their nav, beacon and strobe lights (virtually invisible by day BUT highly realistic at dawn, dusk and night and not the huge fuzzy balls of color that default FSX serves up - they are much smaller but look bang on - you really can't appreciate this from screen shots) I have begun flying only with red beacons on military aircraft. My suspicion is that the twin red/green nav lights on this are embedded in the model unfortunately.

It doesn't work on my machine win7 x64 Ihave tried it many times and never works.

_____

Edit: I found the win7 x64 fix for it gonna load up fsx and see if that works.

How many thumbnails are you trying to do? If you're the type that hoards dozens of repaints, than I see the need for trying to automate. If it's just a few, then you can do it in under a minute two ways:

1) do a screen capture, save in paint as "thumbnail.jpg", and stick in the folder in question.

2) google image search the plane in question (jpg format), find a small-size image, save it, change the name to a "thumbnail.jpg" and stick it in the folder in question. If you can live with a real-life photo of the plane, you're good to go in less time than it's taken to type all this.

I'm not nitpicky that all the thumbnails be sim shots - much less that all the thumbnails have the exact axonometric projection of the aircraft. It's just a visual tag. If you want to make/remake a lot of nice orderly thumbs, then you'll have to get a thumbnail creator programme.

Here's a suggestion. This is what I use under Win8. It's a little more tedious if you have a lot of thumbnails to create, but it works well.

Your computer should have an accessory application called Snipping Tool. Find it and place a shortcut on your desktop or toolbar. You may want to check it out first, and insure you can capture an image with your mouse.

Open FSX to FREE FLIGHT, and select your aircraft. While the image is rotating, Open Snipping Tool and select 'New". The FSX FREE FLIGHT screen will freeze and you can use the mouse to copy the image of the aircraft. Keep it rectangular in shape.

At this point you can now save it to the specific aircraft texture directory. This part can get a little hairy if you can't remember which texture directory needs the thumbnail. Anyways, if you find the right directory save the image -- BUT CHANGE THE FILE NAME from Capture.jpg to Thumbnail.jpg. Voila.

You can continue and repeat this process by selecting another aircraft in FSX, etc. After doing your first thumbnail this way, the Snipping Tool remembers the last directory so its just a matter of navigating to the next texture directory. With practice it should take you less than a minute for each thumbnail.
