Saw this over on MAIW scenery list. Downloaded it. Loaded the folders and files where instructed. Everything indicates it is loaded into FS9 and activated but nothing at the scenery site in FS9.

Anyone else tried this scenery and not gotten it to work? It loos like a very nice scenery.

Found at near top of the list.
Descriptive page of the scenery here:
http://www.interkultur.de/gossmann/fsx/maiw/Remembrance Day.htm

Package name:
"Royal Flying Club Stow Maries scenery and the Sopwith Triplane AI model for Flight Simulator 2004"

You can download the package from here: (4th one down from top of the list)

Without sounding too smug, did you ****??
It tells you exactly how to load the package
I have some screenies somewhere over at the Pond of Ted Cook's Be2C flying in and out of Stow Maries.

Leif

Mike when you are on the list page, and you locate the scenery in the list, 4th one down, just to the right of the scenery title there is a word "start". Click on it and the package will be made available to bigin downloading.

I followed the instructions to the letter. FS9 indicates everything is in there and activated.

I downloaded it and installed it putting everything in the right FS9 folders they are supposed to go.

*Scenery folder RFC Stow Maries ------> into FS9\add-on (folder)
* WSAI Sopwith Tripe -----> into FS9\Aircraft (folder)
* Put the 3 effects into the FS9\Effects (folder)
* Put the trees into the FS9\Scenery\Genareic\Scenery (folder)
* Put the traffic bgl into the FS9\Scenery\World\Scenery (folder)
* Put in the remaining 4 agn files and 4 su textures that go into the FS9\Scenery\World\Texture (folder)

The RFC Stow Maries Scenery shows it is loaded into the scenery hierarchy list and is activated. It shows up as X8ST in the United Kingdom go to airport list but after loading there is nothing other than FS9 generic scenery with not even a runway of any type there.

After that manual install that didn't work I tried to install it with the automatic installer and again come up blank scenery. Maybe I missed something.:kilroy: I'll go over it again.

Thanks for the clarification, a bit of a late night for me now, but the scenery is downloaded ...

Will install tomorrow ...

Cheers! Mike :ernae:

Well for what its worth, loaded and ran very well. It is indeed a good scenery! Well done and fun to fly out of.....thanks for the heads up - kind of anyway. I did use the autoinstall and did not do a manual install. Take care and good luck.

This is just a suggestion, but sometimes it's just as easy (or easier) to consolidate some of this rather than sending files all over the place inside FS9. . .ie:
*Put the trees in the Stow Maries Scenery folder
*Put the "agn" and "su" files in the Stow Marie Texture folder.

The remaining files (traffic, effects and aircraft) can go where you originally put them. Then just activate the Stow Marie scenery folder in the Scenery Library as you normally would.

Not saying this will work, but I've found that sometimes installations of scenery are made harder than they need to be by sending files all over the FS9 directory tree.:salute:

UPDATE: No Workie, lol. . . .everything loaded as it should have except for the ground textures and there really wasn't any reason for it not to. . . .but I trashed my idea and went with the autoinstaller. Everything is there as advertised.

For the second time, tried both auto and manual install and achieved nothing more than a wasted hour. Just checked my "patience" balance and found I'm seriously overdrawn, so, as good as the scenery purports to be and as worthy a cause as it is, this one is now for the re-cycle bin. Shame!!

. . . .and it does show up in the scenery library?:salute:

Oh well. Maybe my Windows 7 platform is preventing something. I'll try a FS9 removal of the scenery and then go into the FS9 files and delete them and start over with a fresh auto unzipped auto install after getting it good and cleaned out.

I'll post back if I find the reason that prevented the loading on my computer.

Thanks for the feedback fellow airmen.

I used FS9 to uninstall the scenery.

I went into the FS9 files and manually deleted all files that pertain to the package.

I deleted the zipped download package. Then I emptied the Recycle Bin.
--------
I redownloaded the package and unzipped it to a folder, then I executed the auto installer to load directly into FS9.

I loaded the scenery from within FS9 and activated it. Then punched out of FS9 and went to manually see that all files were in their proper places within FS9 folders. Everything was where it was supposed to be, per the instructions page.

Cranked up FS9 and went to x8st in FS9 "Go To" airport list and launched but still no Stow Maries scenery to be found.

I did notice in the "go to" list that "ONLY" X8ST airport is listed in the FS9 "Go To" airport list. There is no X9ST airport listed.

In the FS9 Addon Scenery\RFC Stow Maries\Scenery folder there were two AF2 files, AF2 X8ST bgl, and AF2 X9ST bgl files in the folder. I wonder why the X9ST AF2 doesn't show up listed in the FS9 "Go To" airport list? If the X9ST AF2 file is in the scenery folder, why is FS9 not listing it in the airport "Go To" list?

Would the scenery not be showing because FS9 says X9ST airport does not exist and thus the scenery won't show up?

Greetings,
Hope I can help. First off, I did do something a little different - installed the file: MBC Studios ObjLib and activated in FS9, then install the Stow Marie autosetup. Then I copied the TEXTURE file contents to FS9/World/Scenery/Texture file. X8st is the Aux field to X9st the main Stow Marie field.

Perhaps you have an earlier dupe file x9st.bgl somewhere on your system? Load up AFCAD221 and open airport - input x9st as airport ID - if more then one shows up - there would be the problem. Took me three seconds to do and minutes to type.... hope it helps. Take care.

YEAH!!! That was it edmoore!!!

I downloaded the object library from the MAIW scenery and design drop down and loaded it into the FS9 addon folder then activated it with the FS9 settings and addon program.

Works now!!! Thanks Ed!

And can I also point you in the direction of the website.

See the hard work gone into restoring her to her former glory.

I too had a few problems installing the scenery at first, but got there in the end. Its superb and closely mirrors the very hard work that is at present being conducted at Stow Maries in rebuilding this lovely old airfield.

And finding it too was a little problem, but in the end took off from Southend and headed in a Northerly direction and was spot on the nose. But like real life, as two years was the first Auster to ever land there, when the airfield owners kindly hosted a Auster Fly-In. We had a wonderful time and I look forward to my next visit. One of the best places to go!!!

In more than 10 years of flight-simming, I have finally found something that induces anger and frustration in equal measures. Blessed as we are with so much excellent, user friendly freeware, I can no longer spend any more time trying to install this Chinese puzzle. I should be flying, not trying to get inside someone's brain.

Don't give up yet, just install directly into fs9 then activate add on scenery as usual.
when you start up again and go to airport look in the country/region tab and you will find two entries for United Kingdom. The bottom one should find the Stowe Maries airfield. After hours of similar frustration as you this is what I stumbled on.
