Rise of Flight, anybody?

Been reading all this and over at the Avsim forums and think I will hold off for now on this
one. I just ordered CFS3 and OFF and will see how I like that for now.

3 grand computer,$1400 monitor,$300 in joysticks, rudders, a couple grand in addons for FSX/FS9, $40 plus $7 for a few planes doesnt seem so much. FSX and now ROF are the only "games "on my computer. All my shooters, racing ect are Playstation 3 and they are $60 a game.

Here I am whining again. I did a scenerio with the SE5 attacking a balloon. 2 albatross attack and ripped me to shreds. So just to test, I turned off damage. I stuck to one like glue and hammered him. Nothing....
Eventually he went into this back and forth race track pattern doing rudder stall turns. Everytime he got to the top and kicked the rudder, I was on his ass eating him up with lots of lead raining bullets into the top of his plane. This went on for 4 or 5 more times till I was laughing. Then he went into a slow shallow dive again with me at his 6 dumping unlimited ammo into him. Finally at low level he rolled over and went in.
Next flight, damage on, we go head to head and I get pummeled first pass. Screen goes red and with two against one, It was over before it began.

what is your gun convergence set at? seriously -

because i am shredding those guys with MG's set at 50m - just a few bursts and they either flame up or come apart...or the pilot gets hit.

you must aim for the cockpit, wingroot or engine area to be most effective.
the bullets just pass through everything else...as they should

I also get the feeling that most of the people having problems are not lining up the ring sights properly in the planes that have them.
Also that not everyone has the max FOV in the cockpit - too many say they are too close to the windscreen

You must first - while on the ground - use your keyboard 'Home' key to move as far aft as possible - then scroll the mouse wheel back to extend your POV back as far as it can go. - then use the 'Delete' and 'End' keys to line up the gunsight (you might also have to use the 'Page Up' and 'Page Down' keys to get it just right) - then press the F10 key to lock that view as the Home View. Center your TrackIR here as well.

then you can track EA using whatever you like (mouse, keyboard keys, hat switch, etc) and when you are in the perfect firing position - press your Home View key...whatever one you have assigned or the default one - and you can score effectively.

paying for add-on aircraft......well isn't that a novel idea! No one does that for FSX, we can tell from the zero after market sales! The aircraft are only 7 bucks and outstanding quality. Sorry for the sarcasm, to me, that's just not a good arguement for not buying this sim!:engel016::ernae:

The quality of the planes is equal or better than the best payware for FSX also, and yep, 7 bucks a plane is a steal, not to forget to mention they have guns that actually work (well, most of the time, dang jams, LOL!) :ernae:

Ive tried it at 150-100-50....... I do not know what the triggers are that set damage effects on but I have only seen a handfull of enemy planes explose, break apart ect. Most all my kills the plane simply dives or rolls over into the ground. Maybe a pilot hit? I use the x-52 with Saitek rudders and I cannot hit crap. All of this is on a 32 inch lcd also so I got no excuse not to see what I am aiming for. I will keep on practicing with damage off but I swear my bullets must be made out of rubber while my plane is a magnet for bullets.
I finally beat the baloon scenerio :applause:
Well actually one Albatross crashed into the ground and the other I hit with my wheels and folded his wing.

People need to read Eric Hartmann's book 'Blond Knight'. He lays out fighter combat in simple terms.....ALWAYS attack when you have the advantage and attack from behind. If you don't have the advantage.....RUN AWAY and live to fight another day!

That controls "feature" setup routine is a PITA for sure ... argh!! I've only managed to get off the ground once ... all night ... LOL ... after I had to install the latest video drivers ...

i dont actually find it all that hard to fly and fight, landing is a bit dicey though, always swings hard to the left and sticks a wing in no matter what i do :frown:

Make a 3-pt. landing, Stiz. After touchdown pull back on the stick up to keep the tail skid on the ground. Turn off the engine and apply rudder if needed. The SPAD XIII is a bit tricky because she makes a sharp left/right turn after stopping.

Lucas

for landing - try to set down at the slowest possible speed...like in the FSX cub with the throttle cut or near idle - then as you slow down and the the tail tries to swing, blip the throttle up to full and correct the swing with opposite rudder - but only blip the throttle - do not keep it full open.

Just give it enough wind over the tail to provide momentary rudder authority

Practice this and you will no longer have any trouble

Ive got some 500 or so hours in real world tail draggers. These planes handle like a stripped down old Piper Cub used for banner towing.
Rudder pedals are a MUST for this sim and without any brakes, all you can do is land into the wind, keep some airflow over the tail by "blipping" the throttle and avoid rapid throttle changes.

you know I will still watch The Great Pumpkin just for that dogfight...and the music score as snoops makes his way back home through 'no mans land'... lol - is it just me?

10 20 30 40 50 or more, the bloody Red Baron is runnin up his score. 80 men died tryin to end that spree, of the bloody Red Baron, of Germany........

Great shots Musicman, reminds of a battle yesterday where I followed a plane straight up and when he lost energy, it looked like a hammerhead right into my plane, I thought, "Coool!" LOL:ernae:

Thanks. LOL! The game is just too much fun. You never know what to expect each time as long as you can get it to run right on ur system. :icon_lol:
