Running CFS3 in Windows 10: solved for now

Untitled.jpg
So I just got a new computer, and I put a copy of CFS 3 on. Gave it try this morning. It worked great. Now tonight, I'm getting this message.

Have you tried Restarting the PC. Not Shut Down. Restart. Win10 has "Fast Startup"/"Fast Boot" that caches info to the HDD when you use Shut Down meaning the old "turn it off and turn it back on again" doesn't work. Restart doesn't cache info meaning after a Restart is the new "turn it off and turn it back on again".

Yep, tried that too. Still nothing. :(

Windows 11 is running well on my PC.

Quick question: I bought the Firepower add-on yesterday at a good price, and I already have CFS 3 Battle of Britain.

Can I install both add-ons at the same time?

Are there any updates for the add-ons or nicer animations for the atomic explosion?

They need to be separate installations or they’ll interfere catastrophically with each other. The BoB installation should have instructions how to make a separate installation with it.

This is as good as any place to share that I upgraded my Win 11 machine and was able to simply copy the previous installations over wholesale. The only need was to run multicfs3 and cfs3config for each installation.

The old machine had an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 32 GB with a Nvidia RTX 2070 Super 8 GB GPU ($1500 in 2019). It did pretty well and ran 4x SGSSAA (to reduce shimmering) at 3440x1440 in the 50-80 fps range with regular stutters when flying low and fast.

The new machine is an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X 64 GB with a Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti 16 GB GPU ($2000 in 2025). It's capped at a steady 100 fps by my 3440x1440 GSYNC monitor running 8x SGSSAA with just a hint of an occasional stutter if you watch closely.

Have you installed the Mos editor Andy?

Ryzen any good, Andy? I tried an AMD video card some years ago, and had to take it back because it wouldn't do specular textures. I've been a bit wary since then, but as Ryzen processors seen to reach incredible speeds, and as far as I know, CFS3 is capable of using only one core, it may be interesting when the time comes to build another rig. Most people tell me that time was years ago anyway! Somewhere round 13 years and still going strong...

I've been operating with a Ryzen for the last 6 years. Both that one and this one have always used multiple cores to run CFS3. I believe that AnKor's Shaders are also a factor in taking better advantage of multi-threading.

Interesting! I am well behind the times. Thanks, Andy. Good info.
