RV-8 Repaints

One of my favorite aircraft is the Van's RV-8. There are a ton of repaints for the 2020 version. Flightsim.to alone lists 35. However, I can't find any for 2024. Does anyone know where I can find some? I am not picky. I just don't want a "white" airplane.

Alternately, how difficult is it to convert a 2020 paint to 2024?

I'm pretty sure you can use the 2020 paints as-is (since it's a 2020-native aircraft). Just drop the repaint in your community folder and then regenerate the layout.json with MSFS Layout Generator. It should work. Mine did.

Hi John,

As Brian mentioned, there's no native 2024 version of the RV-8 yet, so you can use any of the 2020 paints even under 2024 as the plane is built with the 2020 SDK. If you have any issues, dragging the layout.json onto msfslayoutgenerator.exe tends to fix them. 2024 is pickier about that file.

The only native 2024 Vans currently is the excellent freeware RV-7 from Deejing:

I don't know what I am doing wrong, but it is not working for me. Here is a screen shot of the app being run. It says it can't find the py file, but it is there. The time stamps didn't change on the json files.

Use MSFS Layout Generator instead. Put a copy of the generator in the same folder as the layout.json of your repaint, then drag the layout.json onto the generator. You'll see a little black window open and close. Then you're done. I've included the generator below.
