SB2U-1 and -3 Vindicators.zip

2 set of textures redone

gaucho_59

The flaps are mapped to the lower wing. Maybe I should have mapped the flaps to have there own textue.

Fibber
I have nothing that covers takeoff and landing for the bird.

I wish I were more technically savvy... I think that a refurbishing of the model itself would bring out a real classic
for an aircraft that apparently no one else has tackled by you Allen...
Here is my reworkinf of the blue textures...
Uncle Tgt has done a very nice Midway repaint...

Destined For Glory

I have only high praise for Allen and the others that helped with the SB2U-1 and -3 conversions. This was a much need work and I like the collaborative effort of all involved. If anyone is interested in the background of the SB2U and dive-bombing between the world wars and through Midway, you can read "Destined For Glory, Dive Bombing, Midway, and the Evolution of Carrier airpower" by Thomas Wildenberg, Naval Institute Press. It is available on Amazon. The book is well illustrated by pictures (especially aircraft), charts, and diagrams.

Redoing the french navy one...

Allen,

Take a look at Bismark 13's old Vengeance, these look very similar...:running:

Here is my redo of the French Navy textures...
Actually, my secret hope is that someone developing an aircraft sees the quality of
renderings I am capable of and asks me to do original work on textures for a project rather
than keep on doing repaints... lol

I downloaded the French Navy aircraft but it does not have any dive brakes...
Are working on this or have posted the model with the mods?

Gaucho it's not a CFS2 plane it's from CFS3. I just thought the pics would help Allen see what the dive brakes look like.

As soon as the new model with dive brakes is uploaded, I'll upload again my French Navy texture with slight improvements, including the dive brakes.

The actual texture already hides the belly bomb fork, and I added a new DP file including Darne machineguns, and French underwing bomb carriers.

Happy Easter to all of you.

Francois

Isn't this a tad too much to ask?

I did the dive flaps. Its the cheesiest way but I tried doing it other ways but the darn poly count jumped exccesive.

I need to remove the bomb sling as well.

Please forgive me for intruding folks, :ipepsi2: but isn't this a tad too much to ask to Allen who's already performed a big volunteer task in rebuilding the SB2U-1 and U-3?

Considering all SB2U-3s were retired from active service immediately after the Midway battle attack on battleship Haruna, and they were practically wiped out from French skies in the first days of the 1940 German attack, how much is it necessary to have Allen work on the dive brakes for the sole French version?

The poly count going up with the addition of dive brakes is almost inevitable, it will degrade fps performance, and Allen is also building an A6M5c/M6/M7 Zero for Maxstuka! :isadizzy:

Let's not forget other SOH ex-members were driven away by excessive demands when they offered something.

Happy Easter to everybody!

Cheers!

Sometimes one seems to forget that some models sort of reach their own level of "incompetence" [in the way of Parkington's writings]
that is to say... they reach a point in their development where improvements can only be made by a new model... and the author might
have other things going in his or her life...:wiggle:

I put a lot of effort into my repaints but alas, they stumble into problems that the original model had and cannot be resolved...
except for a "magnus redo"... like the mapping of flaps... to the wing undersurfaces... if you do a dark paint... ok... but on light colors
they are very disruptively sort of white... like one of my painting class instructors used to say in college... "don't put a man on a red coat in
one corner"... it sticks out like a sore thumb..:icon_eek:
or the wingroots... in these examples:

same goes for the cowling forward ring...
what all this teaches us is that one has to carefully plan the mapping to avoid redos at all... lol:isadizzy:

How about that ubiquitous Jap pilot...

Has anyone noticed that ubiquitous Jap pilot flying all kinds of US, Brit, etc.
aircraft?... Well, I decided to fire him in my sim!
Here is the solution...

I repainted that little squirt and now one can have a reasonable pilot for
most WW2 aircraft
Just drop me a PM anyone is interested in having it

I did the flaps by alpha channel. Cutting each one out and doing a recess in the wing for each flap was poly exssive.

Mapping of flaps was my choosing. I didn't think it would be a such a prob....
