Scenery Issues

In some of my installs, the water is not at 0 elevation, but shows up on the hills covering the land and in some instances, the coastline ends up on a hillside or elevated land. It doesn't happen everywhere, but usually where the landmass rises out of the water close to the shore like in the Phillipines, New Guinea and some other areas.
Just curious about a possible cause. I tend to ignore it though because it will happen in one install and not in another using the same scenery. I'm sure it's some type of scenery conflict. Thanks.

Hello Steven. Do you have any scenery installed or are we talking about stock CFS2?

If you do have scenery add-ons installed, what are you using?

The main reason is likely to be whether you have Rhumbas mesh active (or not).

CFS 2 shipped with pre-shuttle mission mesh.
When Rhumba created his mesh in 2008/9, using shuttle mission data, he uncovered that some landmasses were incorrectly located, some Pacific islands significantly so.

As a result, when viewing default (PTO) scenery in a Sim install that uses Rhumbas mesh, you'll find lot's of areas with sloping water.

Some examples:

Japanese Home Islands, Malaysia, areas of the DEI...

It's the reason I started creating my scenery packs.

Furthermore, if you're using add-on scenery packs made before Rhumbas mesh was created, you'll find the same issue.

Maskrider scenery doesn't work well with the water because it was made earlier.I used Rhumbas mesh for one of UT's scenery but the water also included the Gilbert Islands, problem the Gilberts were made by MR and were covered with water.I now use the UT scenery whenever possible.

Thanks to both of you for your.insights. I'll now start checking and noting where I see sloping water and noting which scenery or scenery pack was used and try to correct it if I can. Thanks again.

I have a lot of add-on scenery packs installed, but I don't know how many. I can tell you that I have a number of Maskrider's packs, Xavier's East Asia and Japan. scenery and others. Most of the issues with sloping water occurs are the coastlines of the larger islands such as Japan, the Phillipines, Formosa, New Guinea. I have some of UTs scenery installed, but I don't seem to have any problems with those . I do use Rhumba:s Mesh in most of my installs which may be part of the problem as others have said.Hope I answered your questions. Thanks.

Hi guys; haven't had the chance to play in awhile and trying to make sure I have all the proverbial ducks in a row here. ICR if or where the scenery dates are located so I can make sure that they are with the right mesh. I used to have a lot of MR's packs ( may he be resting in peace) and then went to Rhumba's mesh. Heide , Thank You ! for that date , now how can I locate the date to create a before and after Rhumba order. Any guidance appreciated on this silly question but lately some CRS has been popping up about the game.

Both the Maskrider and Xavier scenery was made before Rhumba's mesh, the Philippines has been redone but I haven't tried it yet.I think both their scenery packs were the stock scenery with the airfields put in.There is mesh made back then and Talon's old installs uses it,some of the mesh goes back to 2003.Now the stock scenery isn't accurate in areas.Rhumba's mesh I think is done more accurately and causes conflicts with the stock scenery.

UT has moved the scenery he's done to accurate locations, that's why it works so well.

I hope I explained it right.

Heide; Thank you, I think I get it. In a synopsis, UT's is Rhumba and MR and Talon are stock. Am I right ?

Fibber.

Talon didn't do scenery,he just used what was available at the time.MR and Xavier just used the stock scenery. There was mesh made at the time that enhanced it so he used it.

UT scenery should work with the Rhumba water.I don't use it.
The biggest problem is people try to put to much scenery into CFS2 and it won't work. What my son and I do is just put in the scenery for the area we're working in.We have about 15 installs including the ones Talon used, one is from when PHP was first started. That was over 20 years ago.

You sure did. UT was right about the older scenery not being in the right place and inaccurate and conflicting with Rhumbas mesh if you used it. I've installed pre-Rhumba mesh and had issue with sloping water if Rhumbas mesh was

Used also. Haven't tried to install pre-Rhumba scenery in an install where Rhumbas mesh was not installed. Also, just so you know I, deactivating or deleting Rhumbas mesh from an install where it was installed along with older mesh doesn't solve the sloping water problem, at least for me.
Hopefully UT will put out new scenery packs for areas like Japan, Southeast Asia etc. In the near future.

Agreed. But creating G2K scenery and creating ships and objects and planes and missions for the sim
is a lot harder for most people even with all the available tools even though you might not think so. It takes a special talent which few people have . I definitely don't have that talent. You are one of those people who has that talent along with others. It's because of you and people like you that make the sim is as terrific as it is. My hat's off to you guys. Felt it needed to be said. Happy flying .
