Scimitar by Rob Richardson....

Thank you Rob for your great Scimitar and to DaveB and Henk for the steady flow of repaints. You have done justice to this often overlooked Royal Navy aeroplane. I thought I saw recently a mention of using the RFN Gauge 4.2 with this Scimitar with mobile IFLOLS set up at Yeovilton but can't find it now, perhaps I imagined it?

Hi harry,

The model comes 'ready for' RFN4.. the entries are already in the panel.cfg but you need to have the gauge installed. Once done, when you open the Scimitar 'in sim' you'll see the TACAN on the panel;)

The TACAN appears on the Scimitar panel, as DaveB says, and Shift + 4 brings up a larger window of it, assuming you have it installed in your gauges folder.

Settings for Yeovilton runways are:

04 115.00 97 X
22 115.05 97 Y
09 115.10 98 X
27 115.15 98 Y

As installed, this shows the lights, but not the trailer, although that is included in the RFN download. To add it you have to use Wordpad or Notepad to change the line in the Gauges\RFN_Carrier.xml for each runway from FLOLS_Name="VEH_FLOLS_System" to FLOLS_Name="VEH_FLOLS_Trailer_Yellow" All of the carriers and their frequencies are listed at the end of the RFN manual.

I have mentioned before but I'll just recap, the RFN gauge is not included in the Scimitar download but the entries, as Dave has said, are already there.
The RFN gauge can be downloaded from the "royalfrenchnavy" website, an absolute "must have".

It's a long time ago, but I also have a very faint memory of "Fly Navy" under the wings of Scimitars or Vixens, and/or inside the rotating bomb bay of Buccaneers, to be shown to the crowds on low passes.

David

Inside the Bucc's bomb bay sounds like a good'un. I'm trying to remember when 'Fly Navy' got trendy but am failing. Certainly about in the early 70's.. possibly as long ago as the mid 60's.

Lovely shots Andy:encouragement:

I've no idea how 800Sqn got away with ROYAL NAVY instead of their serials. Could be because they were the display squadron for that year and chanced their arm:biggrin-new:

The Adens were certainly impressive but I believe to use them put the aircraft inside the range of the bangers used by the enemy it would have been sent to shoot down requiring another 'adjustment' in it's operational role. However.. sidewinder changed all that meaning it could be used in an intercept role if required.

Thanks for posting them.

My understanding is it was a bespoke paint job specifically for SBAC Farnborough that year. The shots I posted are from practice for SBAC. I believe this was the same (only?) year they did their simultaneous-landing-in-opposite-directions-by-folding-wings-on-the-runway routine...!!!

Rocket practice. By the look of it maybe they weren't RP3...

That seems likely.. the SBAC show at Farnborough was our shop window to the world:encouragement: I guess it still is but without the Brit manufacturers!

Warpaint lists it has being able to carry 4 x AIM9, 96x unguided air to air rockets, 4 x ASM N 7 Bullpup ASM, 4 x 1000lb (or smaller) bombs, 24 x 3in (7.62mm.. I think it means 76.2mm which is 3in) rockets or 1 x Red Beard TNB. I have a similar shot and the title lists it firing 3in rockets.
EDIT: the ones in your shot look incredibly pointy for RP3 don't they??

Delving a little deeper it seems they could be RP3 after all. In my head the RP3 had a bulbous warhead and was synonymous with the Typhoon over Europe:

However, it appears the RP3 didn't always have the bulbous warhead and also often carried low profile, conformal warheads. I think these "drainpipes" are the 3" rockets the Scimitar carried.

They may well have used both Andy. I have a shot of XD248 195/R firing 3in and the familiar 'bulbous' nose can be clearly seen. I don't know the ins and outs of RP3's I'm afraid. The different heads could be target specific??

Yes mate.. that's the one and looking closely.. I'd be inclined to agree on the fin sizes. The truth is out there somewhere!!

TacPack with the Scimitar

There are some great posts and screenshots on this thread, but very little relating to TacPack. So far I've flown the Scimitar as-is, but now I want to use TacPack. I have other aircraft which are TacPack enabled, which seem to work fine, but I can't for the life of me locate the loadout configurator for the Scimitar. Does anyone have any ideas?

Also, how about some screenshots using TacPack guys....?!

Andy
