  • Special Server Maintenance

    Just when you think you have everything running some what better...

    You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.

    1. November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
    2. November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
    3. November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
    4. November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.

    If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.

    To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.

If I'm not mistaken, that's the Sunset Bar and Grill on the left in the background, which sits at the south end of Maho Beach, which in turn, sits just on the other side of the fence behind the end of Rwy 9 at TNCM.

Ach.... my own former Queen's airport...should i feel ashamed ?.... nah, not really... it's her grandson that's King now anyway. Like his grandfather he *does* have a pilot's licence but i believe his precious Fokker70 might be grounded due to government cut back. I don't know about the Sunset Bar and Grill, Maho Beach and other side of the fence behind Rwy 9 but i *did* know the airport is called Princess Juliana (because around that time she handed over her crown to her daughter Beatrix) on the island of Sint Maarten part of the Dutch Antilles.

No, i saw it first in "Cowboys and Aliens" ! ;) With good old Harrison Ford and Daniel Graig. Kind of a pretty silly movie. (these big insect things stopped in the air and pulled people on board on a string to eat....how silly is that !? ...btw, seen that before too..:lemo:. )

Yes, i know it's a different breed.This mechsect is from a new 'Dune',right ? I saw 'Dune' many many years ago. I believe with a guy called 'Sting' ?.... No insect like creatures in that one, more like big earth wurms or something. I do like the design of that thing (but i'm not sure about the flight dynamics.. i mean, rotor blades going up and down ??.... Has been tried before. Heh... just a bit of silliness that came along with a whole RAFT of updates today.
I confess I have not tried the Maverick or other challenges as yet, but when I saw Dune in the cinema I knew I had to have an ornithopter!
Flying it in the sim is waay more agile than a whirlycopter.

I suspect we will see more of this type of symbiosis, as gaming blends with augmented realities blends with traditional entertainments.

I remember the huge worms. I read the first four books. After 4000 yrs I got tired of the series and stopped. Sort of like Martin's Lord of the Rings. I read the first two or three books. I got tired of all the people I liked getting killed, so I stopped. Never did watch the HBO series.
 
I am not seeing enough screens of the Dune Ornithopter, presumably the erudite members of SOH are too wise to trash their sim by installing it.
So let me share these from within my ruined sim

It is extremely agile, this bird, and can zoom, dive, and stop as if meeting a brick wall.



And, perhaps one can go for a more Dune-like look and hope your mission will succeed!

It has an astonishingly large cabin for just three people.
In fact it is overall astonishingly large.
Perhaps Ornithoptery is not quite as efficient as conventional earthly aircraft?
