Fast but not furious

The original "My Darling Dorothy" was actually a Spitfire PRXI that served with the USAAF 7th Photo Reconnaissance Group in England in 1944. These unarmed and modified Spitfires flew high altitude recce flights over mainland Europe from bases in Southern England. One of these aircraft flew an unescorted mission all the way to Berlin and back in March 1944. This weekend I was at the amazing Battle of Britain airshow at the Imperial War Museums Duxford airfield. One of my favourite warbird aircraft taking part was the Aircraft Restoration Company's Spitfire PR Mk XI Spitfire. This aircraft has very recently been painted in the colours of "My Darling Dorothy" and she looked superb yesterday. So on my return I took the Flying Irons Mk 9 in those markings up for a flight!
