Sim Skunk Works F-104s...freeware

Hi to all.....
I am happy to see that our work is appreciated.....Thanks!
I can suggest to download the freeware Checklist...they are for the FSX model, but they can be used also for the Fs9 model......there are minor differences!
The main Attitude indicator and the PHI are connected to the LN-3 Inertial Platform as in te real plane, and they must be aligned before the Takeoff...You can find the platform panel on the right console...:)
Unfortunately the next version of our Zipper will be only for FSX...and so the G version which is planned in the two variants MAP and Consortium....

regards

Emanuele

The gratitude must be ours! Great plane, great flyer!

Smoothie! - you HAF to have this one!

Nigel.. i HAF it... and yes it's on the books to go into my paint hangar... the bad news is theres a backlog of Raptors (IRIS work), F-15's, C-47 and a Tornado right in front of it... no starting it up and shuffling my queue around... Tim you really need to lay off the paste man, the superiors are wondering why we've used a years worth or paste in 1 month! :icon_lol:

i'm enjoying flying this when i get some free time... not buggered up yet and flown it into the Dirt i'm proud to say...

i'll leave this here as inspiration:

If anyone would like a USAF repaint for this nice airplane check out post #28 in the FSX thread "Sim Skunk Works zippers as freeware".

Zsoltquack whipped one up for the FSX version, but he did it in bmp format. All you need to do to use them on the FS9 model is rename them:

F104_T_01.bmp becomes F_104_001.bmp

F104_T_02.bmp becomes F_104_002.bmp

F104_T_03.bmp becomes F_104_003.bmp

The other tex (F104_T_11.bmp) for the pilot is not supported in the FS9 version.

I installed it and it looks good. Maybe there will be more repaints soon (hint, hint).

I'd love to see a GAF camo version.

Thanks for the video, Smoothie!
Was a little surprised to see those german 104s without tiptanks (I've always thought they were quite mandatory on iron-crossed Starfighters...) - no more reason for me to resist parking her in the paint shed... :icon_lol:

@ Nigel:
Thank you for your kind words! Much appreciated! :salute:

Package is already downloaded, now I'm eager to tame this beast...

Btw - an old german joke from the 60ies goes like this:
"What do you have to do to acquire a Starfighter?
Buy a vacant lot and wait!" :wiggle:

Cheers,
Markus.

Okay - those "tiptankless" german Starfighters apparently weren't as rare as I initially thought:

JG 74 "Mölders", 1965
Note the old (pre-1969) squadron-based code with "JD" representing this unit.

I've read over at the FSX thread there will be a paint kit released, but I wasn't able to figure out if this will be meant for the FS9/V2.0 model.
Any ideas?

Cheers,
Markus.

Just took her up for some quick spins - what a blast!

Note:
Engine died just a few seconds after this shot.
Stalling at FL 370 is no fun at all in an aircraft without any gliding abilities... :gameoff:

Just testet in FS9. Not much fuel aboard LOL :icon_lol: But very nice !!! Hey Bill, whats about a JG 71 "Richthofen" repaint ? :kilroy: Forget the rest of the german airforce LOL :running: (better run and hide now)

Every airplane glides Markus.....it's the angle or vertical speed during said glide that varies quite a bit :) My friends Stearman and for that matter my PA32 are gliders in the "falling like a rock" category. Typically best glide speed is very close to Vx ....just going the opposite direction.
The real trick is all in the timing....when to convert that energy you have into flare and touch down.

Hi...
also the Zipper could glide even if the two little wings didn't make it a glider.
There are various possible configuration...
Normally the best glide is performed with flap on TO, RAT extended, no stores, tiptanks, gear up and a speed of 245Knots. Starting from FL370 you can fly for about 35 miles....
Without the flaps on TO position the best glide speed is of 275Knots...
With the RAT not extended the glide distance increases of about 2 miles for each 10000Ft of altitude.
With gear extended the glide distance decreases of about 5 miles and 1/2 every 10000Ft of altitude.
Hope this helps :)

Thanks for your support, guys!

I have to confess it was a little unfair to blame the aircraft for an obvious pilot's fault:
Although the flight data recorder couldn't be recovered (German 104s were fitted with this device when accident numbers increased!), I have the strong suspicion I simply ran out of gas and didn't manage to get hold of this RAT. Got no reaction on control surfaces and I could swear I've heard chicken clucking. Nice idea to implement this sound into the soundsuite (although I still don't know what it means...must have something to do with my current inability to operate this beast properly!).

@ Emanuele:
Sorry to repeat my question, but is there any chance to get some blank 32Bit templates or even a layered texture set?
It's quite hard to start painting on those DXT1/DXT3 textures supplied with the FS9 version...

So many nice versions waiting to get depicted (not only JG 71, Quax!)... :jump:

Cheers,
Markus.

Has anybody figured out why and when these chicken start clucking?
(A nice humorous touch).

Hi...
the chicken are a funny gift that our system and flight dinamic developer (aka Mario Motta a former italian F104 pilot) had introduce in the sim model to remember us that "we are chicken"...it happens when we put "the beast" in an uncontrollable situation that could not be recovered in the real life, only the ejection handle could help you....In the sim model there isn't an ejection sequence...and so the chicken appear.
there are some situations that generate the chicken...the most famous is the "pitch up", the particular behaviour that the zipper had when you exceeded tha AOA limit...for this reason the zipper had a stickshaker and a kicker on the stick..to avoid pitch up...but you can override it if you continue to pull the stick....

I hope this helps...

Emanuele

PS:about the paintkit for the version 2 for Fs2004, I can try to create one ...but I'm not sure......I have to remember the difference of mapping from the model for Fs2004 and the model for FSX....

Grazie mille for your answer, Emanuele!
As far as I'm concerned, there's no need for an elaborate layered paint kit, as I won't expect you to spend more time on a rather outphased product!
All I'd need is simple unpainted (white or blank metal) sheets in 32Bit format.

Thanks again,
Markus.

Ehmmm ... considering Mario's statement here:
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforu...4S-Starfighter&p=580140&viewfull=1#post580140
exterior model and texture mapping is the same as on the Cloud9 Starfighter.
Due to the plethora of repaints already done on the Cloud9 bird (including several German skins), there's no need for me to do this all over again.

But an appropriate replacement candidate is already in the works... :jump:

Cheers,
Markus.

Hi.....
texture mapping is quite the same as the cloud9 model, even if the model is total new and remade from scratch (there are a lot of parts which shown that the model is new)....but the old modeler was the same modeler of the cloud9 and used the same texture template.....I forgot it....sorry....
This is true only for the Fs9 version.....for the FSX version there are differences in the mapping....

Emanuele

:salute:A big salute for this masterpiece. It feels and looks very realistic. Frightening difficult to handle in the approach and landing ... just love it! I am a sworn fan of FS9, and it's extra nice that Cloud9 repaints fits this model. Remember to copy the VC bmp.'s from the Sim Skunk... Here are some pictures of MFG2 Marine Starfighter arrive ETME Eggebek!

How Very Cloud9...

It feels really uncomfortable not having those tip tanks, doesn't it?
But you soon get used to the idea that this is closer to a missile , and the wings may be just incidental.
Time to go play...

It does demand respect in the sim, all those stories you read about this one are always in mind...chicken!chicken!

What a great flightsim experience :ernae:
