Sim Skunk Works F-104s...freeware

Cheers Zsolt - I'm just looking forward to some of those wonderful repaints coming our way
...and of course, those we know about already!

What a great notion, recycling and tweaking yesteryear's payware for the benefit of the FS9 community!

Wow ! What great news that the Cloud 9 liveries work, albeit without tip-tanks , on this model ... Brilliant !!! Mike :ernae:

I'm a bit confused by this - does this contain all of the Cloud9 f-104, or does it just take some basic elements from that as a starting point? Now that this has been generously released as freeware does that mean it would be mad to buy the Cloud9 product, or does the Cloud9 do cool things that this one doesn't?

I cannot get the radar to work for this jet... I have tried installing the model twice to no avail, all I get is a missing screen in the pop-up and I can see the instrument panel through the area where the screen is supposed to be. I am running the latest version of FSUIPC but I don't know about the "Traffic.dll" module. Has anyone else experienced this?

Otherwise, it's a BLAST to fly, just gotta remember to not go so fast on takeoff. I've got the landings NAILED.

Can't judge upon the Cloud9's systems (as I don't own this one), but considering my efforts to get the Skunk operated properly without getting those darn chicken, I'd say the Sim Skunk rendition has got all it needs for hours of flightsim amusement...

Cheers,
Markus.

The plane is great fun and certainly requires that you pay attention to airspeed on approach and landing.

How can I disable the chicken clucking?

I actually quite like it...!
To delete:
Go to fs9 main sound folder,
Open Aerit-F104sounds
Open dsd folder
Delete barn_fx

Where is this painting?

I've installed some of the Cloud9 repaints on this airplane.

They are very nice, and free, but I've noticed a few mapping differences. Like those off-color patches around the canopy and the extra ventral fins with no texture.

I'm not complaining, after all the plane and textures are free and I am enjoying them, I'm just saying that if someone wanted to paint this plane they shouldn't let the fact that a similat repaint exists for the Cloud9 stop them.

I wasn't implying the textures intended for the Cloud9 were flawed in any way, simply pointing out the difference in mapping.

Someone pointed out that the Cloud9 textures fit this model, and they do, more or less.

I just thought it might be nice if some talented painter might do a repaint for this particular model.

I realize any repaint that is not an Italian Air Force 'S' model is going to be somewhat fictitious, but there are already plenty of USAF 'A' and 'C' model paints for the 'G' models from AlphaSim, CaptainSim, and Cloud9.

I have noticed the mapping mis-matches on some of the repaints from Cloud9 for this particular model... not all. The mis-matches are so subtle that I feel they don't detract from the plane as a whole. I really don't care about a ficticious repaint at this point.

I recently retrieved the Captain Sim Zipper but decided to keep the Sim Skunk Works model too. The two are very close in handling characteristics, but I feel that the "S" model has a few unusual quirks that make it a different challenge to fly.
