Skysim Mirage 3 out!

Two 3 sqn SAAF Mirage IIIEZ's on a training flight from AFB Langebaanweg with JL100 rocket/fuel pods, early 1970's....

Same feelings here !:applause:

Yago, you'll be missing out big time if you pass this model up! It is a superb model of a great vintage jet and it is packed with detail and it flies great! Besides myself, many of us were hoping to see your repaint magic on this model.

Yeah, the paint list for the 2000-5 is rather short compared to the possiblities with the Mirage III/5....

At last count it had been over 20 user countries for the old Mirage with most countries taking at least 3 different marks, just that makes 60 main variants! And then you have all the different paints schemes used during the many decades of service.... hundreds of repaint possibilities!

It's quite frankly overwhelming but I'm drooling at the possibilities. :d

The new R model is a much better fit for my IIIR2Z repaint even if it does not have the Atar 9K50 engine since it does not have the Doppler radar under the nose. The model does not have any of the RWR antennas, but I have included both he nose and tail RWR antennas in the textures. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
From the outside it can look like the R2Z was a cheap or unsophisticated model since it did not have the doppler nav system from the RD recce model but that is far from the truth. The R2Z can be considered a "3rd" generation Mirage III reconnaissance fighter more advanced than both the R or RD. Four IIIR2Z's were bought together with the South African Mirage F1 order in the early 1970 to supplement the first 4 IIIRZ. They shared the same engine of higher power than the early delta Mirage's, but I'll not be surprised if they also shared much of the avionics too. The engine also made it the fastest of the delta mirages.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
The small fleet of reconnaissance Mirage IIIRZs and R2Zs from 2 Squadron proved to be a very important tactical asset during the “border war” in South West Africa (today Namibia) and Angola during the 70’s and 80’s, supporting most major operations. The only delta Mirage to be lost during the war was Mirage IIIR2Z “856”, which was shot down by AAA during a reconnaissance mission over <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Angola</st1:place></st1:country-region> in 1979. The pilot ejected and managed to evade capture and was later rescued.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Low vis grey painted Mirage IIIRZ "837" and Mirage IIIR2Z in standard camouflage scheme, but without the decals. Both schemes were used during the final phase of the long border war during the late 1980's.<o:p></o:p>

Hello Jens-Ole

I just installed the Mirage Update

I have the new Model 10 and Model 11 files
and
the new Textures 10, 11, 12 and 13 files
with thumbnails 10, 11, 12 and 13.

But ..... the CGF file is the old one, excluding Model 10 and 11 and excluding Textures 10, 11, 12 and 13.

Is it normal ?

Model 10 correspond to what Mirage version ?
Model 11 correspond to what Mirage version ?

Thanks for the infos !

I would strongly recommend using the new CFG file because of various gauge and effects updates in the updated set. You should have un-installed all previous versions before installing the update. The additional textures that have been added can then be edited more easily.

I fully understand that FSDSMAN
I have un-installed all previous versions before installing the update...but on the update

1.
I have the old CGF File
2.
I DO NOT have the new CGF File

Please send be the new one by private message

Thanks !

VaporZ;

As for my repaints so should all aircraft.cfg [fltsim.] entries work with the updated arcraft.cfg file. Just copy and past. The same goes for the R2Z advanced install option, just use the new aircraft.cfg file and modify the engine power as mentioned in the readme. Remember also to use the model.10 which is the new "R" model without the doppler.
My repaints do not at this time support the JL100 pod due to new texture mapping in the update, but everything else should work ok.

Hi Mate,
If you did un-install all the old versions I do not see how the old config was left in place. If you have the latest update then you should have the new CFG file. Try un-installing it and delete any file in the "simobjects" folder that has the Skysim Mirage name - then re-install.
I should point out that the Skysim Forum is the correct place to resolve this.

Hello Jens-Ole

Model 10 correspond to what Mirage version ?
Model 11 correspond to what Mirage version ?

Model.10= IIIR without the doppler radar. Fits very well for French IIIR and unmodified Swiss IIIRS and of course the "super" Recce Mirage III, the IIIR2Z.

Model.11=IIIRS_C70 with canards

When you installed the update a message popped up saying that you needed to uninstall the previous version. If you had added in any repaints that would have modified your original aircraft.cfg file and it is possible that the uninstaller would have left it alone. For a complete uninstall you sometimes need to go in and manually delete files. And then after the new version is working properly add stuff back in.

The texture and model numbering in the aircraft.cfg file correspond all the way from "zero" (or un-numbered) to 11. Texture 12 (Fanta scheme) uses the IIIO model and texture 13 (EC 2/4) uses the IIIE model. The Thumbnails are off by one because they were numbered starting with "1" rather than "0".

I would uninstall, scrape off the previous installation (manually delete remaining files), and reinstall.

Hope this helps.

I've been hovering over this model for some time and have a few questions regarding it before purchase. I sent an inquiry to Sky Sim, but they never responded, would one of you fine folks happen to have the answers?

1) To what extent are the stall/post stall characteristics modeled?

2) Does the Mirage require afterburner to surpass the sound barrier, or will it go transonic at Military power?

3) Does the Mirage have a working Radar?

Thanks in advance

:banghead: Great models....rubbish admin. However you generally get good support from the actual developers on the individual aircraft forums.

1) To what extent are the stall/post stall characteristics modeled?

2) Does the Mirage require afterburner to surpass the sound barrier, or will it go transonic at Military power?
Frank Safranek or FSDSMAN will probably be able to answer those 2.

3) Does the Mirage have a working Radar?
Yes, not truly authentic but it has 2 modes: Air-Air and Terrain Mapping

Modelled in the VC but also available as a separate Pop-up window

Thanks for the feedback, a few others responded privately...and this one looks like a winner.

Did you post the questions in the forum over there? If so, never saw it otherwise would have responded straight away. If you just emailed then who knows? In any case, sounds like you got some answers.
