Sorry to hear how things have panned out with Skysim, Rick. I do hope that you continue to create models for FS. I'm sure your Chippie would be welcomed with open arms...as well as equally opened wallets! :ernae:

Agree, just hope Rick updates his website more, love his planes :ernae:

I cannot help thinking that VERY few people get rich making payware for MSFS but just get a lot of flak from customer's most of the time, about small niggles.

If developers went back to freeware, 99% of users would overlook any small faults (the more people pay, the more they expect total perfection), and the developer could get on making new projects, rather than fire fight customer service matters on behalf of 'shady' (in some cases) publishers.

Luckily my small sceneries are not worth anything, so it is a dilemma I will not have to face:icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:

Let me correct you there: NO ONE in MS payware making gets anywhere NEAR rich....... not even shady publishers anymore ;-)

As for publishers and developers working together: I think they should ONLY do so if they are BOTH totally committed to the hobby and the fun of it. If EITHER party is just in it for more money, then foggedaboudit ! :wavey:

I disagree, we still see lots of threads giving freeware lots of negative feedback, whether intentionally or not. To be honest, the freeware I keep on my HD is very few and far between because of my expectations, the same expectations I put on my own designs. From what I see on the forums, much of the negativity towards developers has more to do with the way users express themselves (think before you post!), rather than the actual perceived issues.

Also, while freeware is less of a headache, at least with payware there is a perceived bar to reach as far as quality goes and isn't that, what most of us consumers want? Also with freeware there are no time constraints, which means no rush to get it out, whereas with payware there are bills to pay and if part of a team, some deadlines in place. While many may not be "getting rich" it's nice to have a few bucks from the amount of time pout into a project these days.

Whoa!

Is someone saying I am not answering e-mails! I answer all e-mails that come through to me - even if it is to explain to people that it is their responsibility to back up their download and NOT Skysims duty to re-provide them with infinite re-downloads. Rick if you have been trying to contact me, you have my numbers and e-mails, if it is Drilling Systems you are having trouble with then get in touch and I will see what I can do to help.

Hi Rick, thanks for the PM, I have responded.

The last few months have been a learning experience both in my computer/back up setup but also where I place my custom. Some developers have been absolutely superb I have no qualms in providing them with my hard earned cash in the future - A2A, Classics Hangar, FCS, Vertigo Studios, Flight1, UK2000, and FlightSim Store all excelled in customer service and I can't recommended them enough. Others I will leave well alone!

There is an old saying " Beware the sower of seeds for he shall reap the fruits of his
labours." It would appear that seeds are being sown here so maybe a little weedkiller is needed.

Skysim is still in business despite attempts to the contrary. If any current freeware
designers want to try their hand at payware then contact Skysim on gordon@skysim.co.uk.
I know that Gordon would be pleased to hear from you

( and maybe the RAF roundel itself )

I'm 99% sure the RAF tried to claim the rights to the roundel and lost as various clothing companies have been using it since the 60s, so it's effectively anyone's to use. Plus it's not really the RAF's as it pre-dates them and is used by all three services to identify their aircraft as being UK government/state aircraft (there's some sort of international law that requires it).

I did retain the intelectual copyright of the files and all it's full content

that was sorted on day 1

Regards
Rick
