smilo's goin' Commando!!!

...departing AYKV Kavieng for CPG Cape Gloucester

call the mechanics,
she doesn't want to roll,
feels like the brakes are stuck or somethin'

that was interesting,
parking brakes must have seized up.
oh well, nothing a couple of whacks
with a ball peen hammer can't fix.

thanks guys, we're off for Cape Gloucester.
oh yeah, here's a case of beer for your efforts...
thanks again :salute:

.....down safe at CPG Cape Gloucester

whew, that was close,
i didn't notice the drop off
at the end of the runway
until i was almost off it.

good thing i'm goin' commando

think i'll take a break
and get cleaned up.
maybe even a nap
hopefully, the mechanics
can figure out the brakes thing.

I've noticed that if I get the C-46 off of the runway or taxiway, it doesn't want to roll very well. It's like I get stuck in the mud at the end of runway.

Getting into Cape Glochester wasn't a problem for me. Getting out was because I had to start on the end of runway and couldn't get any extra run at it. Used so much runway getting out of there, I was looking for a Republic name plate on the Commando. It was tight at the end, but I got it flying before I ran off the bank.

i'm glad to hear that it's happened to you, too.
it's happened before on a grass field,
but this time it was on concrete.
very strange, because i've lightened up the payload a bit.
i mean, 100% throttle and she wouldn't budge.
heck, i even set the superchargers to HIGH
and closed the cowl flaps.

oh well, i restarted FS9
and did a couple practice take offs.
no problem...i even saved a flight
with a new aircraft re-setup.
will make the run a little later.

i'm starting to really like this big girl.
i'd like to see what she can do
Over the Hump
....one of these days

...departing CPG Cape Gloucester for FIN

i plan on testing the cd eject effect on Duenna issue
after i get settled in.

.....down safe at FIN

the best i could do on the cd thing
was to get the FS Available window
to turn yellow when i ejected/reinstalled a cd.
note the Error warnings in the Duenna text.

Willy, just wondering,
what cd player are you using?

...departing FIN for AYNZ (Nadzab)

sitting here, full throttle.
damn thing won't budge.

just noticed....
engine sync off
bet she'll roll now.

.....down safe at AYNZ (Nadzab)

yes, the failure to get rolling at FIN
was due to pilot error...
when typing, i inadvertently, desynced the engines.
she just doesn't want to get goin' on one.
funny how that works.

i also tested the cd eject/install again,
same story.
as i recall, there is a box to check
or uncheck to solve the problem.
i think it's in the cd player ReadMe.
i'll have a look see.

found it...
this is from the ReadMe for R.L. Clark's
AM/FM Radio CD Player, version 4
which i really like.

Also make sure your "Auto insert notification" box is unchecked in the \Properties\Settings for your CD/DVD ROM drive set through your Windows Control Panel System Device Manager.

of course, i have to admit
that i can't find this box
on my XP machine.
just wondering, how is your auto play set up?

.....down safe at GSP (Gusap)

boy, oh boy,
that one snuck right up on me.
i thought it was around the next spur.
good thing i wasn't too high or goin' too fast.

okay guys, make it quick.
unload 250# worth of beer and smokes
and we're out a here.

...departing GSP (Gusap) for AYWK (Wewak)

.....down safe at AYWK (Wewak)

i think that might be it for today.
our anniversary is the 29th
and we're going out
to a fancy pants dinner tonight.
it should be very nice,
with excellent food
and maybe even a few drinks.

i promise not to get stupid...
i want to keep the food down
and avoid that nasty headache.

ahh, isn't old age wonderful?

Radio/CD 4 gauge by R.L. Clark Has a "FM" and a "AM" channel of six selections each that are programmable to sound files on your computer along with playing a music CD from your CD/DVD drive. Looks like an in dash CD player for a car.

It very well could be a product of the combination of FS, Duenna, RadioCD gauge all running on my ancient comp at the same time.

It's just the CD function. When the drive door closes and the comp starts to read the CD, then it locks up my comp for about 10 seconds and I get a red duenna for a few of those seconds. FS also freezes up if I go to reprogram the "radio" function in flight.

okay, everyone slept in and should be well rested.

and the Sounders knocked off Real Salt Lake last night, 2-1,
breaking the RSL 2 year unbeaten at home record,
not to mention, the Sounders 2 goals,
equaled the total goals against RSL this year.
well done, Sounders!

so, after all that, let's get to it;

BARELY!!!

Holy Ravioli! what the heck was that?
coming in from the lake side
sure was interesting...to say the least,
then, after deciding at the last second
that the lakeside approach was not a good idea,
the go around was a real treat.
especially, the cloud bank up against the mountain side approach.
all in all pretty scary stuff,
but we made it.
might just have to crack a beer
or three after that one.

oh yeah, and to top it off,
the root, toot, toot factor
has just kicked in.
it has finally dawned on me
what the link at the bottom
of the Duenna text is for.
