So, this is the future

Had a busy day and finally got around to try out MSFS 2024 for the first time only to be met with a message that too many people were currently on the server. Here we go! And the only way to back out from this is ctrl-alt-del out.

It appears to be the future...I installed relatively soon after release this morning, and have tried to launch it about 20 times over the course of the day...No Bueno. Not impressed with the Asobo/MS plan for rollout, to say the least. Hopefully a.) Server usage will calm down a bit after today, and/or b.) They will bring more servers online-- SOON.

Microsoft/Asobo has said that hey were surprised at the "unexpected" number of purchases. Being the cantankerous curmudgeon that I am, I don't believe them. I think they made a decision to limit the number of servers for financial reasons, knowing full well the initial influx would overload the system.

I couldn't agree with you more. It's the M$ way. It's not so much Asobo, but Micro$not. They manage the servers in their data centers.

Zero issues getting in four times today. Loaded right up.

I'm utterly shocked it was underestimated demand rather than a content server somewhere along the line failing. Yikes.

I’ve been awful tempted to pick up FS24, but after reading the launch issues; I think I will let the dust settle a bit and go on enjoying FS20 and X-Plane 12.

Server resource issues aside, the real 'this is the future' worry is the complete dependence on authentication and entitlement services, without which you get diddly-squat. And even with them the vagaries of Microsoft services may mean you don't see all of your purchased content all of the time. And I understand all content is now encrypted (TBC) so forget modding.

At least FS20 works after a fashion without full connectivity.
And I'm keeping XP12, which works completely off-line...

@ dvj ....

IIRC Jorg Neumann stated that there will be NO fly-by mode in MSFS 2024!

It is buried in one of the official videos on the main MSFS Forum, but I'm about to leave for work and do not have the time to go and find it.

I do not have MSFS 2024 installed yet .... this weekend for sure!

So...from about mid-day yesterday, I have been in and out of 2024 about 12 or so times...and out of the 12 times, I got the "you are in queue" about twice. And I have been in and out three times this morning, and haven't gotten that message so far. Perhaps we will survive this apocalyptic rollout after all...BTW-- Absolutely LOVE the HU-16-- except for the clear thimble nose and lack of a repaint kit. Flies wonderfully, and is BEGGING for scads of military repaints.

Hmm .. couldn't wait any longer.
Download and install went smooth.
I made a freeflight with the default 172 from EHHV to EHAM.
EHHV had trees all over the place so i made an interesting take-off.
I noticed the ai traffic is still stupid. Cars are running in all directions, ships doing 360 spins in a river.
So i guess not that much has changed.
I gotta be honest and say that i'm not that impressed but maybe it has to grow on me.
after all , this was only 1 small flight.

So I went to check out the MS Store today, keeping in mind that you get 'free' version of FS2024 for XBox with PC version. My impatience to 'get something already' after being simless for over a year hit another obstacle after hearing of the opening day issues people were having. Opting to wait things out for a few more months, I went down a rather pricey rabbit hole. I emerged with Xbox X and FH5 hooked up to my TV. I guess I'll be restoring cars and doing some road racing down in Mexico to pass the time. BTW, the XBox graphics are fabulous and I'm looking forward to seeing how FS2024 XBox version shows on the bigger screen, although it will never be my 'go to' version.
