SOH Under DDOS Attack

Since Thursday noonish, we came under a DDOS attack mostly out of France, we are getting hundreds of attacks per hour.
As of 6 PM eastern tonight, I am turning off France (Blocking).

Trolling ba$%rd bots!

The attacked ports and some the IP addys are interesting, and where they go back to...I still have to ask...why?!

That's the only thing to do Ickie, until they get fed up and move on, or if it is someone (the same as before?) directing it, they realise there's no point.

It's a shame for our Gallic friends though.

I've long suspected that attacks like this are done for practice by novices who don't yet have the skills or confidence to go after big commercial sites with expensive, high-end security, or with the economic heft that would make messing with them a serious offense for anyone caught doing it. Maybe success attacking sites like this adds to a resume for one who's hoping to join big time, big money cyber criminal gangs.

On the other hand, maybe it's someone who's annoyed because they got caught trying to spam the forums here, or got humiliated when they got caught pirating files, or falsely accusing others of pirating files.
