Solomon 1943 in P3Dv4 (no taxiway)

Looks like it needs to be re-compiled using ADE to FSX standards. There's a checkbox that will take care of the taxiway issue.

Known problem. I can make an update, but I'll need a few weeks for that. There are about 30 airfields to revisit. Good thing is, I can put the new Banika airfields in the package. They look great!

Cheers,
Mark

Definitely the problem lies with ADE. Once you rework the airfields in the nw P3D v4 compatible version all should be good. I had the same problem with Marianas 1945. I had to redo every airfield to correct the problem.

Tom, when you reworked the Mariana airfields for the taxiways to show in P3D, was it still FSX compatible after the change?

Guys, I am having all sorts of airport issues with V4. Namely airport buildings not showing up in almost all "FSX" freeware airports carried over into P3D4. I have been porting over some of the more recent MAIW air force bases purportedly done for FSX, eg Carswell, Loring etc. No buildings. I believe I have copied over all my addon scenery library objects folders (of which there are many) from FSX over to P3D.

Re ADEX, I just downloaded the latest version 1.7 from Scruffyduck. While I believe it is P3D compatible, I note that on launch, it only gives you the usual FS9 or FSX option, none for P3D of any version.

My question then is, for airport taxiways or buildings not showing up, do I just need to recompile the single relevant ADEX airport (aka AFCAD) file - as an "FSX" file - to sort things out?

The version I have is 01.70.6042.17483 and there is no FS9 selector when it starts up. It only looks for FSX or P3D V3, but it works for converting older airports to P3D if you set it for P3D V3. I have used it to fix the taxiway problem. But if the buildings aren't showing up its probably because they are FS9 bgls, use Model Converter X to fix those.

Mark, the issue of taxiways is solved by just adding a tick in the checkbox "draw surface" in ADE. This checkbox did not exist earlier in ADE. Then you can compile in ADE using the FSX SDK. This way you ensure compatibility with both platforms.

There's a link to the version 175 release candidate available at fsdeveloper in the ADE forums. I downloaded it a couple of days ago and it shows all versions I have installed on my machine (FS9 FSX and P3Dv4). You may need to re-import any custom models in order for them to be compiled properly into P3Dv4...at least that's what I had to do.

Thanks for the advice! If it's just a matter of recompiling, this should be a fast one. I'm a bit reluctant about taking a dive into the old Solomon files, because that was a massive project and I probably forgot half of what I did back then.

Ah, I forgot, all the non-AFCAD airfields of New Georgia (Munda, Ondongo and Seghi), Barakoma on Vella Lavella, the Seaplane Base on the Florida Islands, and the Japanese airfield Lakunai near Rabaul work fine in P3D V4, since they are hand painted backgrounds. In fact they never looked so good, no blurrie issues at least here.

Cheers,
Mark

Well it is also that you have to double click on each taxiway section and check this "draw surface" checkbox. If there are many taxiway sections this can be tedious.

OK, understood. I hope the new ADEX can read these old files.

Check this, even the flak effects and watersplashes work in V4. The only thing that is missing is the big fat black smoke plume over Rabaul and Balale and the volcano Tavuvur in Rabaul steaming.

Sorry Mark, didn't see this until just now. Yes, with the P3D conversion it was back compatible with FSX.

Tom, could You be so kind and upload this new version? I see the last post from two years ago
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php/85625-Marianas-1945-Uploaded/page3 .

Yo Yo, the original upload was over 400MB. I have a new version but will need to be sure everything in included. I had one interested part a couple months ago test it out with very good results. I will need to finish up several ongoing projects but rest assured if there is interest I will upload a version compatible with all versions of P3D.

The quick and dirty answer is: For the buildings and other objects to show up in P3Dv3 and later the object libraries must be at least compiled as FSX. P3D will no longer "See" FS2004 objects. The easy way to do this is with ModelConverterX. The Taxiway issue is this: When compiling in ADE for Taxiways to show up both "Draw Detail" and "Draw Surface" must be checked for each Taxi Link that you want to show.

Hello,
I made this guide on the FTX forums for the taxiways if it is of any help to anyone.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sometimes, airport taxiways will appear to have missing sections in P3D.
There is a fix for this, it involves a the use of the freeware Airport Design Editor.

First, select this choice and navigate to the airport bgl file.

image.jpg

select Taxi Links

image.jpg

a window will open with a list of them all
click on Select all

image.jpg

once you have selected them all, click on Edit and adjust the Draw Detail and Draw Surface settings
to match these.
Click on Done.

image.jpg

then click on Compile and in this window, make sure that the Compile File Name is identical to the
name of the file that you are editing.

Untitled.jpg

Compile the file and copy it over the existing file, that you did of course back up first.

If you do wish to learn this simple technique, it can be applied to any airport that displays the error and can
be opened in ADE, whether payware or freeware and by any developer.

(Why there should be a limit to the number of images in a post is beyond my understanding.)
