Some wonderful old ALphasim Freeware planes that I wish I could fix

...have a rather nice 'Stringbag' hand-starter sequence at home (staying at daughter's for Easter), so that part will have to come later but I'm off to rumage around for the rest...:running:

excellent, so we'll get the Click-Clack, Click-Clack then the fire into life? if so nice! and give my regards to the Family, should be out in Greece this summer (if these buggers would let me have a holiday) :icon_lol:

Back to the subject of B-25J's for a moment.

I have both the MAAM-SIM and the newest RCS versions and I like them both.

The RCS is beautiful and FREE. My current desktop is a screenie of the new USAAF painted one in the parked configuration. Hard to tell it's not a photo.

I'd sure like to see some more paints for it.

I have flown the RCS B-25....briefly..once I read his No Paints policy, I dumped it. I am addicted to painting planes.....and with the RCS B-25, the no paint policy was messing with my buzz. Maybe he has dropped that stipulation since then, but if not the RCS B-25 will remain a cast off.

The SOH A-26 is wonderful beyond measure. No doubt about it....I just have fond memories of tearing up CFS2 with the Alpha A-26s.

The plane that got me thinking about all the fine old Alpha planes was the Dauntless. I still fly it in FS9...prop or no prop. Visually, I can not think of another Dauntless (other than the Vertigo FSX Dauntless) that can touch it. It is a really nice plane that could be made ever better with a working prop and some changes to the animations (full working canopy systems that are not tied to flaps or landing gear, tail hook that works on the tail hook command, folding wings and such) The VC..by today's standard is lacking, but for the time Alpha released the Dauntless, it was a superb VC. And it wouldn't take much to make the VC even better....animate the stick and rudder stompers, do some repainting...bing bang boom.

Actually, I have grown rather fond of the RCS B-25, despite the no-paint policy. The panel work is very nicely done, both in 2D and VC mode. I find myself staying in the seat alot more with this plane, rather than being on the outside, which BTW isn't bad at all to do... The visual model is also quite nice to look at.

The SOH A-26 is by far and away the best freeware version of that plane, bar none. There is also a B-26K Counter Invader variant and an LAS Super 26 done by the same group of folks that no virtual hangar should be without. Lots of repaints available for those models too.

right then! i've started retexturing the Stringbag, thanks to some Tips from Obio in the early hours of this morning (Circa 0500GMT), just getting the basic weathering on currently.... 2 hours in and this is what i have; New fuselage corrugation, redrawn panel lines, panel line shading and a surface texture, next to add will be stains, chipped paint/faded dye and other goodies...

On the SBD, have you tried the former Donationware version from right here at the Outhouse? It should be available here under the archive under the name SOH_Donationware I believe. Still one of my favorites.

Yep...I have the former donation ware Dauntless...it's a nice model...but there's just something about the Alpha Dauntless that just looks RIGHT. Not sure what it is, but when I look at it from any angle, it just looks RIGHT. Can't really put my finger on it...but there's just something about that model that I like better than the FDG2 Dauntless.

I always thought the cowling on the d-ware SBD looks off at the front. Not that I could do any better. I'm using the CFS2 SBD as redone by B24Guy. It has some minor issues in FS9 but flies beautifully. And Revev did some really nice paints for it.

In addition to the no paints policy on the RCS B-25, I remember when it first came out there was a big argument between Chaffin and MAAM about it. Something about Chaffin having been in on the original design of the MAAM B-25, then splitting off from the group and releasing his version which still had the work of the MAAM team in it. Don't know if that was ever resolved, but it was enough to turn me away from the RCS.

another update for you folks on the stringbag, still doing the fuselage sides.... now that we're making some real progress let me know what you think.... :salute:

Nice going Smoothie

...looking great pal! I took another gawk at the Stringag after getting fired up in the sim...yeah it just has too clean a look as it comes from the box, so your work will definately give it 'life'. (icon:Guiness Breweries Ltd:icon)

While collecting material for the sounds for this ship I found a few Greek Easter 'gifts' for everyone 'hear' so eyes sharp!

BB686, I didn't know about the Counter Invader. Thanks on that one!

For me Gents, my RCS B-25 aint budgin' from my hangers (or skyskape)!

ok back to work on it now... fuselage only really topside and decals to do... upper wings are also 90% done.... once complete i will make the paintkit available i think :salute:

She's looking Ship-shape, Matt. Very nice work!!!(icon:two crates of 'Brains':icon)
...just let the Bismark try turing up in the Aegean now!

I'm well into the sounds: this one's definately dounga-dounga, dounga-dounga rather than: Click-Clack, Click-Clack!...well there is a bit of Click-Clack, Click-Clack. JJJJust a bbbbit, though.
Don't want too much Click-Clack, Click-Clack cos it sounds too similar to 'the mother-in-law' tucking into supper.

Found the 'real thing' starter sequence too. I seem to recall someone with the gen on delaying the ignition stage during starting. There aint half been some clever bas..kets!
If one of you Gents have any HU on this, I'd be grosso obliged. It will make the 'Stringbag' far more realistic when firing up.

(icon:that phenomenal moment when you're left brain lobe instantaneously creates a new path with the right. Specially if you gets your omega 3:icon)
Maybe these mods would make a nice birthday gift for OBIO! It may not be the Alphasim ship he had in mind but it is Alphasim!

Praps we could all pitch in and do that 'Dauntless' for him sometime, what?

Happy Birthday OBIO (icon:juggernaught loaded with you're favourite brew:icon)
...and as Smoothie and I know; if you're a 'Stringbag' driver its Navy Rum! Yo-ho-ho!(icon:sozzzled:icon)

Now, where woz I... oh yeah, better get back on those sounds:running:(bally icons goin the wrong way)

...ext sounds are nearly fired up, fiddle or two on the cfg, then home run on the interiors...well exterior, interiors really! No greenhouse. Its a doddle.

Reckon it should be up here tomorrow, then its home for tea and cakes...
(icon:nice little hobbit fireplace with freshly baked scones, homemade strawerry jam and lashings of Devon clotted cream:icon)

...then with your paints loaded and real 'Stringbag sounds clunkin, race ya from Kos to Lee-on-Solent!

...and as for you, turn around you little bugger! :tgun2::running:

SOH Fairey Swordfish sounds-uploading today!

Got up this morning, wasnt happy with half of yesterday's work (there's a Royal Navy expression that amply fits my feelings about that, but I aint repeating it here), then took the horse by the reins. Did nearly the whole bally lot from scratch!

The sounds are now ready, just make up a nice little package to make Rami's life a little easier and hopfully UL within a couple of hours.

If you don't have the Alphasim Fairey Swordfish, get one!
And find out how that heroic old girl, the'Stringbag" flies and really sounds!!!

In the words of John Beattie ('the' former Historic Flight Sea Fury pilot);

"every boy should have one!"

Yeah, I know; the Seafury as well...Luv ya John!

Me I think. you were asking about Sea Vixen models for the Yeovilton project.

Ahh yes thats right I remember!

Incidently that project's coming along nicely Ian and I are playing with traffic!....(something my mother warned me about! long time ago :icon_lol:) ... and we're probably going to release both Sea vixen and Phantom traffic files. were just refining on the parking layout and stuff at present. But the Freeware ALPHA Cfs2 Sea Vixen has had a bit of a repaint by me and (provided I get permission) will be included in the pack. I've also been playing about with the UKMIL Ai hunter from the RAF Honington scenery we'll see how well that works masquerading as a GA.11!

Hooky, I left a couple of presents for you and AndyG43 over on the Greek Easter thread;
hope you enjoy them!

Always had a soft spot for Yeovilton! Nearly all my favourite aircraft are there.

looking forward to the scenery :jump: !!!

Sea Fury?? Did somebody say "Sea Fury".....? Poor ol' Smoothie is gonna be all worn out when he finally gets done with all these projects.:isadizzy:
