Speaking of Malta scenery issues

The area flattens for the Hal Far airfield and to a lesser extent the Ta Kali airfield in my Med theater build are not working. Hal Far in particular is bad, 75% of it is covered by ground elevations and can't be used. the harbors areas also have similar problems with the ground elevation overwhelming the sea level areas. I have Rhumbaflappy mesh and water masks installed and for some reason the BSK A16N.bgls (the flatten area bgl) don't seem to work.
:banghead:
BTW my Med install is exactly as Rami's guide has it.

Anyone else have the issue or is it just my installation?

Kurt,

I'm not sure whether it's in the guide or not, but subsequent discoveries and experiments on my side have led me to the conclusion that leaving the flatten line in from the BSK_Malta package actually works the best.

The actual airfields themselves have no flattens, because Bruno wanted them to be part of the natural terrain.

Hi Andrew

I think having no flatten bgls was true for version 1, but Bruno's current V.2 does. They are in the Malta_BSK_V2 folder for all the airfields, Valetta harbor, St. Paul harbor, Kalafrana, etc. along with the bgls for same. And BTW, the second Filfla bgl mentioned in the other Malta thread is in this folder too. The scenery bgls show up but the flatten bgls don't work.

The scenery cfg flatten text does not seem to affect the airfields or harbors areas.

Do you suppose the reason the flatten files don't work could be the order they are in the scenery cfg file? :dizzy:

Kurt,

This is one of those areas where we'd have to do a line-by-line, folder by folder search to see what is causing interference.

Kurt,

I'm still battling a cold, but tomorrow afternoon, let's roll up our sleeves and see if we can tackle this. Until then, I need my beauty sleep, and then I have church in the morning.

Hi Andrew,

I hope you get over the cold quickly. I've been lucky the last 5 years with only 1 cold. But then I'm not around youngsters all the time like you are. Drink your orange juice and take Cold-Eze. :very_drunk:

Nope never did. But I had a separate Med install that did not seem to have the issue. So rather than keep fighting it, I just dumped my Malta install and added the mission to the Med install that was working. I never did figure out what was causing it.

Just another case of CFS2 weirdness I guess. :very_drunk:

Hi Captain Kurt,

I have the same issues you did in your earlier post. So I need to ask if the Med install that is working is comprised of the stock CFS2 meshes and bgls or is it modified also?

Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave

It is set up per Rami's MTO install guide. This is how it is ordered in the scenery cfg.

Just an idea...

Captain: I take it the other scenery packs ARE working okay? Have you tried to remove it from the Scenery Library and delete all the Malta scenery - BGLs and GSLs, then, downloading them again and reinstalling? That in itself shouldn't take long. :wiggle:

Captain: what is the "82nd" pack you show in your scenery Library screenie? I don't have it in either of my MTO installs.

Shadow Wolf 07,

It's the airfields he built (plus some other things, like rail yards) he built for the 82nd Fighter Group.

I will respond to these threads in detail as soon as I fire off some missions to a few people for testing.

Kurt and David,

I went through and looked at your scenery.cfg file pics you posted...but I can't seem to identify the issue. Having the Desert_Scen in a separate folder should not affect Malta. I have tried it with the flatten and without the flatten, it doesn't seem to make a difference in terms of the airfields. :dizzy:

If it makes you feel any better, I can't get the RAF Scampton airfield bitmaps to show up in my ETO installs despite the fact that Achim has re-made it twice. These funny little Gremlins affect us all; one way or another. :banghead:
