Spitfire PR.IX by Chris Lampard

BUMP

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a USAAF PRU Texture?

She looks like an awesome Model, for sure!

Thanks!

Actually... the Morton panel needs work to be a PR XI...

For panel,

Please, download and install the excellent panel of Morton, mk_SpitfireMK1-2Dpanel-wide.zip
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=46&id=15574

Replace the needed following files at the following subfolders :

Flight dynamics, effects, gauges, panel. I added light green visor in 2D panel of Morton, and in minipanel.
The visors are adjusted and work well with flight dynamics.

Maybe needed to adjust the [Views] , in aircraft file... but I watched an interesting thing: in VC view the aircraft is fully modelled, and with 'Active camera 2004' , and the wheel of the mouse, we can get very nice angles of view, out of the cockpit...

Have FUN ...

...

Morton's excellent panel is not for a PR XI... being an unarmed recon aircraft... it dispensed with armament... ergo... NO gunsight,
in favor of speed... (less weight) [also they were painted PR BLUE!] ALSO it had a clear plexiglass winscreen... NO BRACING... JUST CLEAR PERPLEX ALL AROUND...

I am working on a PR XI version...
Here is my WIP screenshot ...

Yes indeed, no gunsight, very nice screenshot gaucho_59, really...!

Do you see, at low altitude and horizontal flight, the horizon ?

I am doing just the artwork..

Nice Work, Gaucho! Did you do the gauges as well?

BB686:US-flag:

Someone else with the expertise I lack... is doing the config. and gauges as well...

ah... for that someone else... I can revise the gauge artwork... faces... brand, etc.
once you do the gauges... or maybe... I don't know... you may have the gauges
already done.... we'll see... like said... I am at your disposal...

original bitmap by Morton, PR adaptation in progress...

The question is: visor, or not visor ? :banghead:
(for the comfort of flight)

... simple HUD...

I would be more than glad to do a skin for it... definitely yes...
(if the model is freeware... can you provide me with a URL where I can download it?)
Cheers,
G

Hello, G!

Here's the 411 on the airplane...

FS2004 Supermarine Spitfire PR.XI. This model follows on the DH Mosquito (DHMOSQUITOPRXVI.ZIP) and depicts another aircraft based at RAF Benson but with a changed serial number. Like the Mosquito, it is intended for external viewing. It has no panel or VC. By Chris Lampard. [/SIZE]

Any of the USAAF paint schemes are just fine and dandy; pick the one you like the best! Much appreciation for taking this on!

SOLOBO -- Personally, I would choose the view without a gunsight; PRU Spitfires used the 'one piece' front windscreen instead of the 3 piece with the flat front.

Awesome work, gents!

Yes, I agree... Maybe soon two choices of 2D panels... For me, maybe I have to ask permission to Morton...

The project of gaucho_59 looks very good.

Modified bmp panel for PR-XI, from original work by Morton:

OK, granted permission by Morton, many thank's to him, and to its talent...

Very kind of him...

Working on it...

Alan,

Just finished this USAAC livery... there are a couple nicer ones... with monikers and nose art... but I have to find some picture of the PHOTO-RECON tally marks... Have no idea what they are...
the photo I got is just too far and blurried to distinguish them...

Here are some pics of the one I have finished for now....

Let me know if I am coming anywhere near what you wanted...

You are too kind...

gaucho_59... Very nice !!! :applause:

Thank you very much.... do you by any chance know what those PR tally marks look like?
There are a couple of liveries with them and it would make a very nice livery...

Gaucho,

You are the MAN! Awesome repaint; I think it looks perfect; also, very thoughtful of you to use the 'Spitfire 944' motif!

Many thanks for your hard work and very kind response!

marks....?

Tally marks... basically are those things like the hakenkreuze (Nazi crosses), British roundels, little bombs, etc. that are often called "victory kills"
- allied fighter pilots would paint little Japanese flags, Luftwaffen pilots used oblong "chalk marks" with little RAF roundels atop.... to signify aerial kills...both
US and RAF bombers kept a tally of bombing missions...[rows of little yellow bombs, etc.)
Well, Photo Recon pilots apparently used some sort of symbol to tally their number of successful aerial photography "runs" over enemy territory... [I have a photo
of a Mk XI Spit, with a row of white markings below the cockpit on the port side - a very nice livery - but the picture is not that close up as to determine what
each little white mark - star, cross, who knows- really looks like.... (maybe little photo cameras...???)
So, I asked if anyone had ever seen them or had a picture of them...

Allors, comprendez vous maitenant ce que je veut dire? je ne sais pas comme on y dit ces choses en francais.... ou malereuxement je ne me souviens pas...
en tout cas... se vous avez quelque chose pour me aider...

G_59

PS:
Alan... or anyone interested,
if you PM me... I can email you these textures... btw... Chris really did a marvelous job with this one.... Thank a lot for such a jewel!!!

"Alors, comprenez-vous maintenant ce que je veux dire ? Je ne sais pas comment on dit ces choses en français.... Ou malheureusement je ne me souviens pas...
En tout cas... Si vous avez quelque chose pour m' aider... "

Oui, je comprends... Yes, I understand...

Ok G_59, sorry, and thank you very much for explanations. Sometimes I need a translator, sometimes, not.. But all is good to learn my english... Small by small.
Here, I needed...

In french, "tableau de chasse" ... Not really exact translation, but, some sort: board of hunt...

Rare pictures.. Maybe a clip or a documentary, here or there...Or books...

Tableu the chasses... mmm

Funny enough... little by little... everything gets sorted out...
Interesting... because the English... when the go on the fox-hunt... yell... Tally-ho... and
the pilots also sounded off like that over the radio... "Huns on the horizon... Tally-ho"

It all seems related to the chase... or hunt...
At any rate... I DID FIND OUT WHAT THE TALLY MARKS ARE on at least the 944... they are
little red crosses... so I imagine that the other livery I am planning on doing must be white
crosses... probably each pilot did his own...
Here is the 944 with corrected textures...

Very nice! :encouragement: Although I believe the "Star and Bar" should be on the left wing top and right wing bottom... Judging from the photos posted in this thread and my reference manuals. Same with the Mosquito.

I'll definitely add this paint to my Spitfire PR.VI if it becomes available.

Thanks for the correction.... will solve it rightaway!

Funny as it is... I got carried away and never noticed it... indeed... stars and bars are ALWAYS top port and bottom starboard...
it looks odd... and one cannot figure out why... "not seeing the forest for the trees" so to speak....
Lucky observation... because I was about to send the textures to a forum fellow-enthusiast who wanted the textures...
Thanks again..... A LOT!

I JUST CORRECTED THE PICS ABOVE... ALL IS WELL NOW... THANKS AGAIN!!
