SSW F84-F Thunderstreak ("The Hog") ready for the sky.

It would be good the startup procedure video

Hi zsoltquack,

We did not provide a video tutorial for the startup because if you follow the checklist is quite simple.

- Battery switch - ON

(some checks to perform after battery on,but very quick and written in the checlist)

- Fuel tank selector - ALL TANKS

- Throttle -MOVE TO IDLE

- Starter switch - Pull upward to START

- Once started......Enjoy your ride in the Hog ;)

By the way,I'm working to provide a complete paintkit (I know is a matter you know very well ;) ) with all the 4 "set" (Diffuse, diffuse alpha, specular, specular alpha).

Bye

/ Alessandro.

OK, so if this jet takes miles of runway to takeoff and land on, then we truly know that the FDE has been properly rendered! LOL!!

My first flight with the Hog yesterday was flying the clean T-Bird variant. At reduced weight & fuel, I held it down low to the runway after liftoff and built up speed for performing a Roll on Takeoff (Solo style). I gently pitched up to about 25 degree and began the Roll. When I came out wings level, it was sinking like a rock and I carefully eased in back pressure to stabilize the sink rate. Once settled, I was at roughly 50 AGL and clawing to accelerate again! The FDE is amazing and seems to closely mirror all the data on the real F-84F as best that can be translated in FSX. At higher speeds, it is a dream to fly and maneuver but you have to be mindful to keep a close eye on the accelerometer so you don't over-G which is easy to do. It seems the "digging in" effect(during maneuvering) of the swept wing is modeled in which makes using a light stick inputs (stabilator/pitch) very mandatory. It's a matter of getting used to the "feel". Of course, during maneuvering you should be careful to not bleed too much airspeed because it takes a significant amount of time to recover speed. At slow airspeeds(at all weights) you have to be cautious to not over-maneuver(no steep banks or excessive pitch inputs). During landing approaches and deceleration to get set up and configured for the approach, the envelope is pretty tight regarding handling, landing gear & flap lowering speeds. Due to the drag of landing config, I'd recommend not using the speed brakes until you're on short final. The technique I use it to shoot the approach without the speed brakes but pop them out on short final and push up the thrust to maintain consistent speed and descent rate. In that final config, if I need to make a go-around, I simply pull in the speed brakes and then sweep the gear. Since the engine is already spooled up & thrust high, it accelerates well.

I have to give many kudos to SSW's work on this model. It is well done and quite challenging to fly. It's an excellent rendering of a vintage jet fighter aircraft.

OK dumb question time, I have got the registration key double clicked it and nothing happens. How do I activate it?

Uses up almost all of the long paved runway at Edwards. What is that 10K ft? A real beauty to look at and to fly.

A little update: Many simmers already tried to fly this bird in P3DV2. We did all the developing with FSX/P3D 1.4 SKD's,and we are going to start testings to make it fully working with the new sim. In these hours we released a rush patch to solve the problem for the black cockpit glasses:
http://www.vaafse.org/media/downloads/F84F/SSW-F84F-P3Dv2-patch-1.0.exe

Wonderful plane! Thanks! Do you have a similar patch for FSX DX10? The P3D patch works somewhat in DX10 but it's not transparent enough...

Hey Pluto, isn't the download from the website suppose to allow you to fly the plane for a limited time before you purchase it? I installed it and installed the patch. It comes up okay and all the textures are there but when I try to start the engine all I get is the Bad Boys music. What's up with that?

Yep, just don't get slow on landing approach! The jet killed a lot of pilots that way. In truth, it was not a well liked jet. One engine on such a large and heavy jet resulted in an aircraft with very challenging flight characteristics, especially considering those earlier turbojet engines required a longer time to spool up than engines do today. So, if you folks get yourselves in trouble somewhat frequently and have little chance to get out of being slow and below glideslope, then again, these guys did their job well!

This was a jet that could have easily used a second engine.

...How do you startup?

Well I have tried the autostart function, Ctrl + E, and that didn't work. So I then restarted the flight and looked over the controls and did a start up procedure that seemed the most logical, but that didn't work either. After reading the manual it seems my guess at start up procedure was right on the money, but all I got was "bad boys, bad boys..."
On the installation it says to install the Runtime x86 app but it says I have a newer version. I wouldn't think that would be an issue, but obviously I'm missing something.

Okay I went through the start up again and I guess I missed something last time because this time it worked. I didn't get a lot of time to fly before the time limit ran out; I had a hard time figuring out how to get the canopy closed and locked. Anyway, very interesting flight model. I think I will have to add this one to my hangar.

Brettt777,our policy for the time trial (and I do not remember how much software houses offer it instead of a closed box...yes,there is the refound in many cases, but in this way you do not touch your credit card) is to let the simmer check if the add-on is ok for the hardware he is using. Maybe he can find a big issue of frame drop (but our model are very light, until now, nobody noticed this kind of problem) or maybe he do not like the model itself. Ok,for us is a transparence policy, and we think is correct to let the simmer freely decide. 8 Minutes are enough to evaluate these points and the purpose of time trial is not surely to make an extendef flight check (but a short one is possible with some practice).
I'm glad you found our model interesting,we spent thousands of hours to do our best.
..Now I go back with my current job: prepare the paintkits ;)
Bye,
Alessandro.

Did somebody installed this F84F it in FSX DX10? Here I have black canopy glass...

Note: I have installed the glass_t.dds file from the P3D2 patch, and it's much better now, but still a bit too opaque for my taste.

Same issue. I don't mind switching to DX9 for this bird, but a DX10 transparent canopy would be much appreciated. (Slightly opaque from outside, completely black/opaque from inside view now)

The start sequence was baffling me until I realized that the start switch isn't spring loaded to return to center. So:

1) Batt On
2) Power Lever Idle
3) Start Switch - One click to start position - then One click to return to center (which for me engages the starter).

This sequence works every time.

Hi Barfly,we are working for a solution for this problem, together with other minor issues found during these 2 days.

Thanks to all for the feedbacks.

/Alessandro.
