It's the modern military!!
There are unrealistic expectations enforced and decided by those that never had to live up to them.
Here's an example:
At the old West Point, there were no women. The classes were a bit easier and the military side of things was a thousand times easier. They had more time off. In addition, there was a woman called the cadet hostess who would set cadets up with dates from nearby colleges. It may sound cheap, but these were nice young women and nice young menwho wanted to meet each other to get away from school. Many happy and lifelong marriages resulted.
At the new West Point, there are women. The women run amock, and many drop out their second year so that they can openly date and be engaged to cadets, losing taxpayer dollars and sacrificing discipline. Some of the men fight over the women. They have no free time at all, and life is horrible. There is no more cadet hostess, as they don't have time and it's too "old-fashioned". STDs run rampant at many modern military institutions where women and men mix, but men don't have time to meet non-military women. Our nation's future command officers are supposed to live like monks and follow rules noone ever had to. Now, there are TONS of sexual assault cases everywhere you look. Most exist only in the minds of confused young women who got themselves into a heap of trouble and wish to utilize the 'sexual assault grants amnesty from any crimes committed' rule.
That's just one example. Legal pressures have lead to the command staff of our armed forces no less than selling their fighting men and women down the river for personal gain. I've met maybe two commanders in my whole life that would have wanted the best for their troops for reasons other than appearances. Noone wants to be a leader anymore, everyone just wants wholesale achievement at any cost. That's true everywhere.
