I left the coordinates in the picture for anyone interested. That's a lake under the F-104's nose - that wall of water you see is worthy of "The Ten Commandments"! That chasm holds one long arm of the lake, there's water at the bottom. I plan on visiting this thing in a sport floatplane soon!
 
I want to say that is part of a famous FS9 anomaly cluster around there. Stockton or something like that? Various meshes will all but take care of it but I still miss them. There are even fictitious sceneries to make full use of the weirdness.
 
It's fun to take a Helicopter down to the bottom of that hole...
and then fly it back out.
It's really deep.
 
I just finished installing Obio's complete scenery overhaul for FS9 into this iteration of FS9 - it is FSSW (Silver Wings) 60 for the 60s. Even after the install of all the meshes it's still there. Since that's the case - aeromed, where are those special sceneries located? Maybe we could start something down there to give Branson a little competition?:mixedsmi:
 
I just checked and I still have the gorge as well, but it's not as complex as it was. The sceneries are by Doug Kibbey, I think under the title Anomaly Airways. If you search for the Secret Lair, Secret Base, Area 52 you should find them. As they were meant to work with default stuff I only found one or two that remained more or less usable after the addition of better meshes. They're just fun goofy sceneries to play around with.
 
Yup, that's the infamous Stockton Lake anomaly. In RL, Stockton Lake is 39 miles from my house, and looks much better, lol.
 
Got 'em downloaded but don't want to install just yet, I've got to "drop in" via helo and check this out. :mixedsmi:
 
There was a rumour that when Moses retired from Hollywood, he bought property in Missouri. Discoveries like this can only heighten speculation.

There is a bridge at the bottom of the hole, on one end, that goes from one side of the hole to the other. Is this the "Bridge to Nowhere?"

Too bad the waterfall couldn't be seen in all its glory; the wave effects were making it shimmer. Reminded me of a waterfall I saw on the front of a building in downtown Waikiki some years ago.

Looked for the wild-looking guy with the white hair & beard, long stick and robe at the bottom, but didn't see him!:mix-smi:
 
Well - I installed everything Obio has in his "FS9 upgrade for free" file, so that may have something to do with it - although what's in there should actually be taking care of things like this, I would think, since they're upgrades to the basic mesh files that come with the sim, and have these anomalies inherently in them.

"Johnh_049" is right on the money about "deep" - the altimeter read in reverse going down into the hole - over 1,200 feet.:icon_eek:

The "readme" in Josh Robertson's fix gives the location of the nearest airport, heading
and distance to each anomaly. Very helpful for visitors. There is an airport on top of
the "mesa" near Memphis, but it does not show up in the FS map.
