SZD-30 Pirat released

Watch those spoilers on T/O, lots of drag on the tow plane. If you saw the video, you will notice that I occasionly move to the side, this allows me to stay out of the prop wash and helps keep the tow cable from being too taught (they will break in FSX if your realism setting are high enough, mine are at 70%).

Thanks Mike, it will take a few hours to get that (slow connection here), but I will give it a try, I have not updated DirectX for about a year.

Will check on DX update, may be a day or 2, I'm busy, but it's a good idea :applause:, hopefully others will also make a report.

Great news. I totally forgot that during programming the gauge, I used directly some directX functions to do the 3D math. If you have old directX runtimes, it may not work.

Sorry to be a pain, but I downloaded that install programme and it is asking where I would like to put it....I have no idea!

It also suggests setting a re-store point as you cannot uninstall Direct X, my Windows gave up being able to restore a few months ago.

I am not sure what to do, possibly screw up my PC (or FSX at least) for the sake of this winch.

Any suggestions, I am living a long way from any IT support and rely on the PC for work!

Maybe I just forget about the winch! Although that was one of the features I was looking forward to most.

Make a folder on your desktop and and point it there, after open the folder and run DXSETUP.exe to install.
You can delete the folder on your desktop once its finished.

Put it anywhere you want, it's just a self extracting archive, the real setup starts after it unpacks. You can delete it when installation is complete.

Updating directX shouldn't screw anything, it is often updated automatically when you install newer games (because they wouldn't work otherwise). Anyway, if you don't want to give it a try you can always use the external winch from Peter Lurkens, should be safe :)

Thanks guys, why did it not say that on the MS webpage!!

DirectX does come with the sim, but it gets updated every few months, like video drivers. I did it last year, but forgot how to do it today!

I GOT A WINCH (and a second variometer)!!!!!:jump::jump::jump:

And very good it is too, pretty much like the real thing, but a bit faster than ones I used to use. I learnt to fly a glider at the age of 16 and our winches were made from converted WW2 barage balloon winches.:icon_lol:

The gliders were open cockpit (wood and canvas) Slingsby aircraft, one of which was modeled in FS2004 by Rick Piper.

Now all I need is the old gliding school at RAF Tangmere for FSX and I will re-live my youth!!!

I got my DX update. Winch Works :jump: ah Thank you
Empecks Wonderful Glider :applause: Thank you Sir for a real Beauti

some1 and empeck---------:medals::medals::guinness::icon29::guinness:

I have vario and winch :ernae: so the direct X update was the answer.

Way back in.........a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.......in 1969 I was winch launched in a Schweitzer (I think) 2 place trainer on a grass field in Hope, British Columbia, Canada. It was a sunny day.........

Like the blue paint.

I like her, managed to fly some time with SimProbe and CumulusX, got to 1200 meters 3 times with some aerobatics inbetween...

Is there any way to direct the tow plane to change heading?

Must look for a more suitable tow plane, got to try if the J-3 can get her up...
