Texans and Harvards FSX released

Here's a follow up on the second part of the prop textures that can be changed to get the desired results.

Once the blurred prop blades have been turned off by changing their material's alpha channel, then the other object to be tweaked is the prop disc. The Texan disc uses the texture file named "MyPropImage."

This is the file that Banana Bob would tweak to make his artwork.

The first attached image shows what the file looks like in DXTBmp.

The second image shows the results of the tweak.

I plan to put a kit together and it will have two folders. One with the modified prop files and another with a backup copy of the original files.

I've suggested to Jesse that the prop kit folder be placed in the Extras folder, along with the paint kit files.

I'll be back and let folks know as soon as it's been added, and I'll find out how it will work for folks who already have bought a copy of the first FSX bundle.

Now that's great news, great job mate! :applause::applause::applause:

I carried out the first procedure, made the alpha channel solid black in the PropPaint.bmp. The attached image shows the result. There is still a hint of the blurred prop passing across the window, but it’s much less, and you can’t even see it in the attached pic here. I didn’t modify MyPropImage.bmp, as explained in X_eidos2’s “part 2” post. I don’t understand what I’m supposed to do to MyPropImage. I’m happy with the results of tweaking only PropPaint anyway. Thanks, X_eidos2!

The texture file MyPropImage also has an alpha channel. It's because there is a very slight blur painted in the alpha channel that you still see a faint hint of a blade. I adjusted the alpha channel a little bit for the prop kit. In doing so I gained a greater appreciation for the work that Banana Bob does with his props. It's quite a balancing act to get everything looking good. It took me about an hour to finally get a prop disc that looked acceptable.

A few weeks ago someone mentioned "the prop" and again they didn't say exactly what bothered them, they just said "the prop." I was reluctant to make any changes and explained to Jesse that how a prop looks is such a subjective thing. What looks good to one looks awful to someone else. The reason a good cook doesn't put a lot of salt and pepper on their food is that they know people have different tastes and allowances are made for that difference. I felt it important to keep the blurred prop blade mesh in the model because it gives the disc some thickness when viewed from the side. But it appears many folks find a visible prop blade a distraction. What I didn't take into account was that not everyone has a copy of DXTBmp and Photoshop laying around and changing an alpha channel is a big deal for some.

So I'm glad to add a prop kit to the FSX Texan / Harvard package. I sent a copy to Jesse but haven't heard back on how he plans to distribute it.

The only problem I've had so far is that as I write my responses I've had to keep looking at this bull over in the smilie section.

X_eidos,
I appreciate your efforts on this :applause::ernae:

I'm itching to purchase this one so please keep us informed as to when Jesse makes his decision....

FS2004 T6/Harvard Sounds. This sound folder can be used in any North American T-6 or Harvard aircraft for FS2004. It has an authentic "snarl" heard when the props exceed the speed of sound. The author recorded the sound himself and incorporated it into the "Wasp" sound package by Jay McDaniel. By Doug Smith.

I am on dial-up right now visiting family for the Holidays. I will be back home this weekend. Right now I cannot check my email because a rather large file will not process in my outlook :icon_lol:. I am betting it is the one from John.

Henk,
I know of only 3 people that have made repaints for these...SOH's own Zoren & Cirrus210MS.....

(One other guy did "Tigger" but I forget the member's name) :redf:

Here's one of Zoren's...

(Ya' gotta do some file renaming though since the repaints are FS2004..) :cost1:

Prop Kit Update

Here's an update on the plans for the "Prop Kit."

There isn't going to be one.

Instead, Jessie is going to re-package the bundle so that there is an extra version of each model, one with a 3d prop blade and one without. When setting up the flight you just pick which variation of the plane you want. No need to move texture files in and out of folders.

For those who have already purchased the package, it will be a free upgrade and you just have to re-download the planes.

Coming up next

The FSX version of the WASP piloted AT6D is finished and waiting for the FSX LT-6G FAC to be finished. I've attached a screenshot of the FSX WASP version and a few of the FS9 version of the LT-6G. The first image shows that the wheel covers with the spokes are modeled in 3d. The second image shows the FAC with all it's smoke rockets and extra antennas. The third image shows the model with all the visibility switches turned off and the plane in it's T-6G (or SNJ-7) mode. One extra visibility switch will be added to make it possible to have the spinner on or off. This will make it easier to match the planes being flown at some museums around the world.

Special deal for folks who purchased vol. 1 when buying vol.2

Everyone who purchased a copy of FSX vol.1 will be e-mailed a coupon giving them 25% off the purchase of vol. 2. Details will be made available when we get ready to release vol. 2.

All the new and improved files have been sent to Jesse. He's the one who has to re-bundle everything.

This is going to be a hectic week for him with finals at school and other business matters. (good kind I think) :friday:

I'll keep folks posted.

Yep, going to be hectic but I am glad. Since I am graduating this month I have to complete over a weeks worth of future assignments so that the grades can be applied on time. So this week I have 2.5 weeks of assignments to do. Fun Fun

The good news is when I am all done, I finally can devote the majority of my time to SkyUnlimited.
