The Battle of Leyte Gulf

Golly Clive, You sure put together a great looking airfield. TY.
I am stuck in redoing vector shorelines I don't expect to be finished for some time. If only i had found these 1954 topos early in the process. Oh well.

According to Wiki, it was either left behind or re-purposed. It wasn't of much use in the jet age, apparently.

There were always a few odd pieces laying around all the many different bases I spend time at. They were usually used in maintenance areas

It's fascinating when you visit these places to see how much of this stuff that got left behind after the war got repurposed and is still in use today. I spent a couple months in the highlands of PNG some time back and noticed pierced steel plank from a former air base everywhere in use as fencing and even as part of structures. Drop tanks were partly buried and used as road signs, and if the locals ever wanted to show their displeasure with the government, they just dragged a 500lb bomb out of the jungle, put it under a bridge and lit a fire on it.
