Since we have had a couple of great threads about the Blues, I thought it might be interesting to see if there are any other fans of the funk. Blues is my first love, Funk is a second. Funk itself has a lot of connection to blues, soul, rock and jazz and is as diverse as those genres of of music. Where to begin...I know a lot of blues artists knew how to get funky. The jazz giants found their funk groove too.
James Brown, Dr John, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock's Headhunter years and Chic Corea's Return to Forever. Then you got your funk bands like Sly and the Stone, P-Funk, BarKays, Tower Of Power, Funky Meters, Neville Brothers...etc I know I am probably missing a lot but please put on your afro tell us about your favorites
This woman is a favorite of mine
Betty Davis, she is fairly obsure but she was married to Miles Davis and had a few flings with Jimi Hendrix...She was quite a foxy lady, and as I understand she makes Madonna look like Church Lady lol
(listen to Miles's Mademoiselle Mabry and then listen to Jimi's The Wind Cries Mary and you will hear the relation)
Anyway folks, bring on the Funk!
Cheers
TJ
