The Funk

Blues is Life
Since we have had a couple of great threads about the Blues, I thought it might be interesting to see if there are any other fans of the funk. Blues is my first love, Funk is a second. Funk itself has a lot of connection to blues, soul, rock and jazz and is as diverse as those genres of of music. Where to begin...I know a lot of blues artists knew how to get funky. The jazz giants found their funk groove too.

James Brown, Dr John, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock's Headhunter years and Chic Corea's Return to Forever. Then you got your funk bands like Sly and the Stone, P-Funk, BarKays, Tower Of Power, Funky Meters, Neville Brothers...etc I know I am probably missing a lot but please put on your afro tell us about your favorites :D

This woman is a favorite of mine

Betty Davis, she is fairly obsure but she was married to Miles Davis and had a few flings with Jimi Hendrix...She was quite a foxy lady, and as I understand she makes Madonna look like Church Lady lol

(listen to Miles's Mademoiselle Mabry and then listen to Jimi's The Wind Cries Mary and you will hear the relation)

Anyway folks, bring on the Funk!

Cheers

I've always liked Earth, Wind, and Fire.

James Brown's "Living in America" is really nice!

Amen to the P-funk Dain! Bootsy Collins could make anything sound funky on that bass. Yeah TOP is good stuff, I saw both P-Funk and within two weeks later saw TOP George Clinton may be old but he knows how to bring the funk.

Here is a little TOP for you Tig. ol Doc sure knows how to blow the funk out of that bari sax. Their horn section is probably one of the best around. Certianly up there with James Brown's horns and the Blues Brothers horn section.

Cheers

Too bad his 'Wee Purpleness Formerly Known As The Artist" isn't a little more "internets" friendly towards his fans.
Prince has laid down some tasty Funk over the years too...

Okay, one more.

I gotta mention the Funkiest computer game I ever played. Interstate 76.
Based on 70's TV shows like "Starsky and Hutch", with 70's muscle cars, a unique looking style, and a total Funkalicious soundtrack.
It was great to just drive around and enjoy the soundtrack. (Most soundtracks to games are just too annoying.)

Oh god, that was a great game. I felt completely immersed in it's world, and I loved the editor where I would just keep making bigger and bigger jumps. There were a million copycat games after. Did they ever make anything after 'interstate 82'? was interstate 82 any good?

lol sorry couldnt resist :bump:
Funky Andorian...when she ain't playing the blues, she play the funk :ernae:
