The Just Flight Spit has appeared on the radar

That is great news, Baz! No complaints from me - I am looking forward to getting some new Spitfires in my hangar, especially as they are the model-types I most enjoy. I've never been quite satisfied with the exterior-shaping of the FSX Spitfires I have, as far as accurately depicting the Spitfire lines, and these look more the part, at least to me. It is nice to see you carrying forth the prototypes as well, which are always plenty fun to operate, and amazingly elegant/stylish.

About those casting numbers, I feel for you! I just went through a time period where nearly everything I was texturing, seemed to have casting-number to go with it.

Actually Jan, we use 3DS Max.

Ok! Great to know, Baz! Nice leap forward from working with Gmax, éh !? :)

We only use renders for our readmores as I believe renders are cheating when presented as screenshots.Especially when models have been sub-divided to make them look smoother.

Great fun to play around with though, don't you think ? Personally i can't stay away from that render thingy... :d

I don't like texture baking that much as it tends to make things "dreary"- we prefer to texture the details as they are in real life - it is our point of difference.

Any plans for photoreal VC textures in the future, Baz ? I always loved your earlier work for the excellent photoreal 2D panels ! :)

A LOTTA work must've gone into that VC, it looks excellent, well done, mate ! :applause:

External doesn't look half bad either, ( maybe bit more shiny ? Those BOB Spits were painted pretty much high gloss, weren't they ?.... ) Bring it on, Baz, can't wait ! :salute:

cheers,
Jan

Hi Jan,

We have been using Max for quite a while now. It definitely has the beans over GMax but when you think that GMax was a free offering it isn't half bad.

Yes renders are fun. I love doing them but I wish some people, (I'm not getting into this!) would stop showing them as "WIP"shots when the final result could never match the resolution. It only leads to disappointment when the end user gets the product.

I don't think early wartime Spitfires were ever gloss Jan. Not from pics and examples I have seen, The best one could have achieved would have been a slightly silk finish which is actually what we have with the specular and reflection filters set up. Just enough to show off the bump-mapping.Gloss was used in some high altitude photo-recon versions for more airspeed.
But I don't think the lads would have been very amused if they thought their Spit was shining like a star when viewed from an Me109 cockpit!

When we researched the Lancaster, we disvocered that a paint shortage in Britain in the war, resulted in the various components of the fuselage arriving from their relevant manufacturers in different shades! So most Lancs were assembled with a real patchwork quilt of various shades of dark green and dark earth. However, none of it gloss:engel016:

BTW, it's the 70th. Anniversary of the Battle of Britain this year so it seemed appropriate to release the Mk1A first.

Beatutiful model again Bazz, but 2010 -1940 = 70.......

So the BoB will have its 70st birthday ths year ;)

Sorry Huub, bad typing, edit made. I was thinking of another extra-ordinary aeroplane...

4) I realise we will never be able to build anything like A2A or RealAir so I have asked myself why we bother really. (sorry but these immediately and predictably negative comments start to get ridiculous after a while) I notice the lads at Just Flight asked somebody to supply compared shots with the RealAir Spit. Nobody appears to have obliged.

The little A2A Spitfire is lovely. It's unquestionably my favourite FS9/X warbird ever, but it is getting long in the tooth and there's simply no comparison with the cockpit detail and texturing on show here. If the whole model is as good (and it's looking good so far) then I'm definitely in line for this AND the MkV.

Freudian, I hope... :d

It's a shame we haven't had a high quality FSX-dedicated model, knoworrimean..?:wavey:

YIPPEE

I just have to add, I am so looking forward to an improved early Mk Spit. And I am really hoping for a MKV I mean really hoping, almost as bad as being young and wishing on what you might get on your birthday....please please please....Dang it socks, and denims.....what happened to the red bike???? well anyway I'm really hoping for a MKV but won't have any problem getting a new MKI or MKII.... Keep up the great work Baz....

Ol' Jarhead :wavey:

MkV is happening, it will be there once the Mk1 is finished. BoB Anniversary is too important.:engel016:

Bazzar I wonder if you could make a VC texture sheet?

If I get this I'd want higher resolution textures in the cockpit, and I understand that you might not want to, or have the time to do this. If you could provide a texture sheet I could happily do everything myself. If not then never mind.

If you don't mind me asking, exactly how much higher resolution were you thinking ....?:isadizzy:

Thanks for the kind words Huub, trust you are keeping fire-fighting fit...?

Hey Mods, any chance of a sticky?....It'll save me hunting around trying to find the post to answer questions...none of us is getting any younger....:icon_lol:
