The Ongoing Mystery Aircraft Thread Part Deux.

Thanks. I see I just posted ahead of Ferry.

Here is an odd one. It can't decide to fly horizontal, vertical, both or neither!

Finally dug it out - it's the Johnson-Hamilton conversion of the Hamilton Metalplane. Seems like a lot of effort for not much gain !

Now I'm aware that we have one contributor who knows the intimate history of every aircraft built in the world after 1945, and another who is the ultimate twin-boom freak (no names....!) but perhaps they will refrain and see who gets this wee chappie.... come on, newbies, get in there !

Would that be a Alaparma AM-65 "Baldo"?
Cheers

Blast ! I should have course have excluded the maestro who doubtless flew in this machine !

Nice glass of Barolo for BG.:very_drunk:

I believe that there's a fascinating tale about the one Baldo that flew to the UK, where it was passed from pillar to post before ending up, if my memory serves me well, rotting away, and ultimately being scrapped, somewhere in the south of England.

Hi pomme-homme! This isn't a tale but absolutely true, she was a I-DONP which became a G-BCRH (more information and pics are available on the Air-Britain thread)....I'm now struggling to submit a decent mystery....
Cheers

I was curious about this - the tail markings look Italian, and I know some were sold to Italy, but did they see air force service ? Doubt if it was a Hillson in that case, but as far as I know there are no external distinguishing features between the
original and the Brit-made models. BG, can you enlarge on this ?

Hi BG. I meant tale as in story for it was I-DONP/G-BCRH to which I was referring. Apparently in the early seventies it flew from Italy to Gatwick to clear customs. Thereafter it lurked at various locations in the south-east of England - Redhill, Lydd and Challock - before ending up at North Weald, where rotten woodwork and corroded metalwork sealed its fate. Some say the remains were burnt there, after the useable fittings had been recovered, whereas others say that they were sold on to Berkshire, where its engine was used in a car(!).

Hi Lefty!
In reply to your queries I doubt whether the italian air force ever used Praga's E114 though a few were sold in Italy before and after the war. However I'm under the impression that the aircraft of which I submitted a pic is OK-IPN this being corroborated by the attached design (the accompanying text reads:" the record breaking E-114 Air Baby had silver grey fuselage and ochre wings. Its rudder is shown at the Air Museum in Prague-Kbely". By the way OK-IPN had c/n 10 and belonged to the AeroklubRCS/Prague....
