The LFU-205 prototype/technology demonstrator by Leichflugtechnik-Union (LFU), a consortium formed by MBB (subsidiary Bölkow-Apparatebau GmbH), RFB (Rhein-Flugzeugbau GmbH) and Pützer (Pützer-Kunststofftechnik GmbH) and with help from the W. German Government.
D-ELFU first flew in 1968 and I understand she was still used till at least 2012.
A unique feature was the forward swept wing (see photo)

I remember it as a research aircraft for boundary-layer flow control (cf. your picture).

Here'a photo I took last weekend - you see the problem is the approach - my shaky track is not that much exaggerated - and crosswinds hurtling down the mountainside ! Have had a few wobblies there......

Guess we were lucky to approach from the opposite direction... No problems at all!

The approach you show does over some great views for spectators though..:

Walter, did that Lateron work on the same principal as the élytre employed in de Rougé's Elytroplans?

I am not an expert on aerodynamics but I understand:
In the RCD-001 Élytroplan designed by Count Charles de Rougé, the ailerons were replaced by the horizontal small wing, placed on struts above the fuselage.
Another Élytroplan was the LB-20 by Bouffort and Lantrès, with a similar device as in my quiz picture. However, seems that this airfoil was used to replace the conventional rudder rather than the ailerons.
In my quiz picture the forward raked control surface was located on the aircraft c.g and replaced the ailerons. The aircraft is not called an Élytroplan (afaik)

The A.R.L. 20 Squale is a two-seater development of the A.R.L. 11 Baby-Squale.

Designed by R. Lemaire, a flight-test engineer with Sud-Aviation.
