The Ongoing Mystery Aircraft Thread Part Deux.

All this confusion and it's not even a French aeroplane!

I'm afraid that I shall be occupied until at least Wednesday evening and as I don't have the next mystery ready and waiting, I'd be grateful if someone could step into the breach, please.

No, the gentleman on the right is not a Gulliverian giant... nor is the craft a Curtiss.

There used to be a lovely site that listed all the early birds by year - always enjoyed browsing through it - but I think it foundered quite a while ago.

The Gatsby bonnet, plus the fact I can't find a Brit like it, makes me think it must be North American, but I don't have the time to trawl through Aerofiles.

(Having serious issues with the Win 10 Anniversary upgrade.....boy do I just love Microsoft.......)

Could it be Mr. Baldwin and his Red Devil, i.e. U.S. ?

It is a Red Devil, but possibly one of the Witteman-licence-built copies. It was flown, and wrecked, by Mr. Badger in 1911.

"Baldwin, holder of Dirigible Balloon Pilot license #1, is also credited with the invention of the first practical parachute, in 1885, although he never bothered to patent his idea."
(Aerofiles).

:victorious: good work, giru!

May I dare to post a mystery floater here which has not been identified yet? You people here are “my last hope”. If nobody finds it I’ll declare open house after 24 hours.

Thanks GX.

Here is a somewhat grainy stylish tourer to consider. (I don't think it has appeared before but my memory sometimes is a little wonky).

I am extremely happy with yesterday’s fast identification of the Miller MC-A1. As I have about a dozen of still unidentified flying objects in my files, I am asking for further assistance with this one.

I thought it should be easy because of the monowheel. But so far I failed to identify it.

Hi Gruxx
Your mystery aircraft should be the Dayton Wright TA5 with monotrace landing gear
Soon I'll send you a pic
Cheers
BG

Oops! ...too late...

Thanks, Gx - there is no real reason why a monowheel installation shouldn't work perfectly well - it just doesn't look right !

Here's something not on one wheel but two floats - a grainy horror* (Moses doesn't hold the monopoly on those......)

* this might indicate that it ain't American.........

As I suspected, Walter snapped this one up. One museum I probably won't get to......:very_drunk:

In fact, apart from Luxembourg and Andorra, Norway is the only Western European country I haven't visited. I am ashamed.
