The Ongoing Mystery Aircraft Thread Part Deux.

So, Kevin does not name the rumoured Cessna Advance Turboprop Test bed, but it's included in his links.

Since many others have already come up empty, I'd be thinking this was hidden deep in the landfill, in spite of heresay about "photos". Between the horrendous development costs of the Starship and the Avanti struggles, it's no wonder Cessna kept lips sealed tight.

In today's world there is a bit more 'successful espionage' as pointed out by the pics of the test hack single-turboprop Cessna Mustang http://www.avweb.com/eletter/archives/avflash/1762-full.html#203559

The sketch indeed depicted the alleged/rumoured Cessna ATPTB.
May i invite Kevin to draw the next straw? :icon29:

Nice one Kevin... sneaking into my backyard to grab pics! (somehow the pics ended up in the Canada Aviation and Space Museum data bank -- and NONE on Aerofiles)

The Adkisson SJ-1 Headskinner

"The wings were from a 1946 Luscombe 8, cut and re-formed into the gull-wing configuration, while the cabin and forward fuselage section were formed of steel tubes. A Luscombe tailcone was attached to the aft end of the steel-tube frame, and standard Luscombe tail surfaces were used (with their tips squared off). Cessna spring-steel main landing gear springs were used. They planned on using a Warner radial engine of 125 or 145 hp, but settled for a 65 hp Continental with Beech-Robey controllable propeller in the initial installation."

I was galloping along to avoid the stampede!
Actually the search was easier than i thought even though it was based on "gullwing Luscombe"... the tail-feathers were the clue.

This is an odd one - disregard the hayfield. The location was not one of intent! However, I guess a forced landing proves the aircraft flew - once :icon_lol:

:icon29::icon29: to Fife! They were air-dropped about 0400 GMT as we flew over...

The nose was likely "customized" during the forced landing.

The little triangular bits on the LE of the upper wing got me thinking about slots/slats and that led to Handley Page ... and then the H.P. 31 Harrow (yes there was another Harrow...)

Only pics I could find were the wheel version so Lefty must have dug deep in a Putnam :applause:
