The Ongoing Mystery Aircraft Thread Part Deux.

Hmmm. There's Voisin AIP visible in a corner, which I suspect of being a red herring.

Can't recognize the uniform of the decorated chap.
That machine has an Italian look about it.

An early Schneider cup contestant? Harry Hawker?
Keith

Just doing a quick look on Wiki the description fits a French DD-2, but no picture to prove it!

OK, the gentleman in question is EV1 (Enseigne de Vaisseau) Georges Guierre. Have another go before I put this one out of its misery. The shiny motor is a Clerget 130hp.

(Dan, you are as devious a detective as some of the rest of us - what you see is actually 'Voisin L.A.P. VIII' which is the machine on the previous page !)

Oh, by the way, if you hadn't guessed, it's French. :france: :jump:

I hoped it might put you off being a bit ungainly - obviously the design was strongly influenced by the UK Navy types...
:icon29::icon29: For you Sir, your turn!
Keith

'UK Navy ???' I presume, sir, you are referring to His (or Her) Majesty's Royal Navy ??

I am not aware of the R.N. being in possession of very many multi-engine types other than my beloved floaters....

UK Navy indeed - gad, sir, a gentleman ought to know better. Withhold his rum ration forthwith. :angryfir:

Thanks Keith. Here is a non Navy airliner and a rare one at that. Note the fancy tail setup.

Sorry about the poor photo as I think it is the only one that exists!

Hmmm - a toughie. Has to be American, not from mainstream manufacturer methinks. The only triple-tail without a photo in Aerofiles is the Laird Twin but can't be it it. A stinker from the Texan vaults.

You hit the bullseye Sir, well done. Have a cold one. :icon29:

With that heavy tail and sizeable cabin it had to wallow about like a drunken sow.

I was serious when I said it couldn't be the Laird ! Reason - according to Aerofiles, the Twin was converted into the single-engined Limousine, which has absolutely nothing in common with this monster ! Anyway, will dig out something to ponder over shortly.....

Hi Mike :salute:
I recognized it as belgian, but needed your confirmation as I could not come up with the name immediately.
I have this one as the Euronef (European New Economical Flying) ATTL-1 (Avion Tres Tres Légère No.1)
of 1989.
Seems SABCA gave technical and the Walon Regional Government technical backing. Alas, only the prototype was built.

My French, Walter, is inadequate for me to glean all the information from the SABCA book from whence this photo came. It seems there was significant input from various SABCA employees including Serge Martin, chief test pilot, who flew the machine.

Euronef ATTL is the most common designation but it also seems to have been named Conquérant 26 in homage to a Magritte painting !

Over to the Netherlands :icon29:
