So get some good reference pics, fire-up Photoshop and enjoy going creative for YOUR Republic XP-72 paint schemes.
And remember; FS is for sharing - and we'd love to see the results of YOUR work.

Have fun!

A question about the transparent pilot parts....

Hi Milton and team,

Thank you for a lovely model and a great flier. I'm enjoying it thoroughly. I do have one question. I noticed that when I loaded the racer model at Reno, the pilot's hat and flight suit were transparent...as in allowing me to see the ground under the aircraft. (This is in FSX SP2 Accel) I don't see this in other models, or any other parts of the aircraft. Do you know if it's just a texture that needs an alpha layer fix or is it a model problem?

I'm looking forward to the paints that are sure to come from this release. Thanks so very much.

Yours,
Randy Cain

Hi Randy,
I see this is your first post here at SOH - welcome to the 'HOME', happy flying!

As far as I can see in FSX, there seems to be no issue from here.
The same pilot figure/textures are also used in the xp-72 model.

There's nothing on the blank alpha to cause any concern.

We should be posting this in FSX but; anyone else see these issues?

I 'checked' out the 'Rebel' in both FSX and P3D v1.4 and I have to say I don't have / see any issues...

Hi Randy :)

Thanks for the heads-up on this one.

Indeed, it is an alpha problem with the A26-pilotmod texture. It is black and needs to be pure white.
I am attaching a corrected version for the xp72 "272" texture or you can correct yours.

My apologies; I thought I had caught all of these black alpha issues.

Hope you get lots of fun out of flying these aircraft Randy; we appreciate your comments.

EDIT: Optionally, you can copy the texture from any other livery that uses a red hat. :)

Kind Regards

Yes, it was 272 Heatwave.....

I was going to post a screenshot, but I see you found it already. Nigel, Milton, thank you for the prompt reply and corrected texture. I'm still trying to land this without bouncing it, but I'm getting there. :D

I'm going to do some left turns now. :mixed-smiley-010:

DAH - I'M BAD !!! :banghead:

I checked out the wrong aircraft yesterday !!!!

Thanks for the fix there Mr. Shupe....

LOL No problem WND; I appreciate all your efforts in support and especially all the work you did testing in beta for FS9, FSX, and P3D. :applause:

It seems the original white alpha was lost when I opened the original bmp to do some retouching.

On re-exporting from Photoshop, Mr. Muggins saved the new bmp without creating a new one and therefore Photoshop kicked in a brand new shiny black one.

My apologies Gentlemen and thanks to RandyCain for catching the gremlin.

Well, i finally had some time of my own, so i tried it and its magnificent, outside, inside, how it flies, or how it sounds, just pure pleasure!
Now demands, lol. Could some talented person do what if repaint for "Flying Tigers 2", like in this story:
http://www.air-america.org/index.php/en/15-about-air-america/articles/148-the-secret-war-in-laos
Author William Leary in his wonderful book, Perilous Missions, relates how back during the Communist Revolution in China, General Chennault had actually suggested forming another American Volunteer Group (using CAT pilots) flying P-47 fighter-bombers to attack the Communists – a rebirth of the Flying Tigers you might say. Captain Rousselot had the pilots all lined up and ready to go but Washington finally decided against it.
I also would love to see what if Frech, or Irish paints....

That was a good read; enjoyed it a lot. Thanks :wavey:

There have been many downloads of the paint kits so hopefully someone can accommodate your request. Great idea.

Hi guys! This is my first post, and soon to be paint upload

three quarter rear.jpg416 Sqn D-Day.jpg416 Sqn D-Day 2.jpgI downloaded Milton and company's XP-47 a few weeks back and apart from flying the beast, got my hands on Nigels' great paint kit and have been playing around with it a bit. My first 'repaint' was just a rework of the olive drab over grey USAAF bird, then a Bare metal USAAF paint, and then I dove into the paint kit. So, Here is a screenshot of my 'what-if' RCAF 416 "Lynx" Squadron P-47J---or Q--- or whatever variant would have had the XP-47's airframe with hardpoints for bomb carriage. There will be three versions of the paint, one with full D-Day stripes, one with just the underside striping, and one without any. Just cleaning up a few little bits, and then will put together a .zip, and figure out how to upload a file here! :)

Thanks Milton and Nigel for this great airplane and superb paint kit!
Cheers
Dave
