Whilst everyone is laughing at Kim Jong Un's bad haircut, this guy's actually shaping up to be very dangerous.
Whilst everyone (with any sense) will want to avoid bloodshed, can the U.S afford to wait until North Korea has developed the technology to deliver it's pre emptive strike against the American mainland as he has promised? I think not.
I don't think this will end well.

I hope the intelligence being gathered on N. Korea is accurate, and if the U.S. does act, N. Korea's nuke capabilities are taken out before it can fire any missiles. NC

It would be a good idea for the US to address the North Korean problem directly to China and tell them to put the choke collar on Kim Jong Chubby Boy. South Korea has already warned that the next time NK fires artillery rounds or commits some other provocation, they will respond forcefully. If that happens, things could escalate real quick. So far I think we (the US) are taking the right course of action.

I agree with you on both points completely; especially about China! NC

Although North Korea is a Russian creation, it will be Communist China that has to put the arm on Kim to slow him down or stop him. Kim is sitting on a powder keg. His people are starving. Eating grass or tree bark soup, or grass right out of the ground, is no way to survive, or to bring a pregnancy to term, for example. I doubt his country has much foreign trade, if any. His continued existence is due to the largesse of the PRC. They have funded the country over the years to preoccupy the US in Korea, and to keep S. Korea from expanding northward due not to its military prowess, but to its economic power. Will this blow up? It's hard to say. Brinksmanship is a dangerous game, one miscalculation or improperly read signal will lead to a real tragedy for both sides. Not sure what North Korea's offensive missile capabilities are. Whoever's downrange may be in for an interesting time. But for sure the greater part of the tragedy will befall the North Korean civilian population. China is already returning NK refugees to NK control when caught - you can imagine what happens to the returnees when they're handed over. China can't encourage this sort of thing or there will be a mass influx over the border, right now. This is probably why the PRC is greatly beefing up its military presence along the NK border - not to come south to help as they did in 1950, but to keep that enormous mass of starving, disease-ridden, and underdeveloped humanity from positively flooding that area of the PRC adjacent to NK. They can't cope with that many people needing attention. The PLA will also serve as an unspoken guarantor of territorial integrity to other powers. What will the aftermath be? Study what happened when E. Germany became defunct, and the burden it placed on W. Germany. Wonder how S. Korea will handle N. Korea imploding? Will they want to inherit this mess, without help? Will there be a sort of Marshall Plan to help? Can we afford to do that any more? Will the PRC move in with the rebuilding? Enough of Kim's toadies will survive to conduct guerilla war on the peninsula, thus potentially sabotaging relief efforts up north. Jeez! Who wants to be an intel analyst? So many variables! :icon_eek:

This is all part of the standard North's sabre rattling game, nothing new here.
The North Korean military says it has ratified a "merciless" attack against the United States, potentially involving a "cutting-edge" nuclear strike.

"The moment of explosion is approaching fast," the army said in a statement on state news agency KCNA.
War could break out "today or tomorrow", the statement said, quoting a spokesman for the General Staff of the Korean People's Army.
"The merciless operation of (our) revolutionary armed forces in this regard has been finally examined and ratified.
"The US had better ponder over the prevailing grave situation."

And I believe in Santa, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny!

Having caught our attention in completely the wrong way (according to an ASIO assessment of the present situation) the heart of the matter is the continued sanctions against North Korea.
I doubt Kim Jong Un is the driving force behind the above statement.
Does anyone really believe a 'Government' of ANY nation is going to advertise their intention of going to war???
North Korea does not have any intention of lighting the blue touch paper, what they want is the opportunity to emulate the South, and this seems to be their oddly clumsy way of forcing negotiations to this end.
As for China, they have no interest in the Koreans kicking off a conflict, China is doing very well at dominating the Planet via 'Trade', so the puppet masters will be working away behind the scenes to damp this absurd scenario down.
North Korea want the same 'Industrial Revolution' that has made the South a major and very prosperous power house, it is a Nation that wants to (so it seems) attract investment and development but is hamstrung by 'Sanctions'.
They are making a complete balls of it but this is a Nation that has been completely isolated for almost 60 years under an 'Orwellian' dictatorship, they need 'schooling' in diplomacy at the very least, and we need to look behind the rhetoric.
North Korea will not go to 'war' with anyone in the foreseeable future, but they will be party to sensible negotiations toward opening the country up to investment and trade.

It seems at least once a year,North Korea does this....What with the problems of the people there,no food,no energy,no freedom, the Gangsters go thru this Kabuki dance...Throwing fits, acting like nitwits, for the designed effect of getting STUFF from the free world so they can get pocket money ...."IF YOU DO NOT DO THAT ,I'LL DO THIS."threat has worked. This Diverting their peoples attention to their miserable life....China till now loves this,Russia also..any stick in Americas Eye is just fine with them.....Japan is always worried,South Korea, lives in fear all the time..Iran buys the Bomb technology from North Korea..The Danger now is,have they gone to far...can they back off??,and thats the problem...They entertained their people, diverted their misery, and now are expecting a "GIFT from the free world...Uncle Sap most notably.......Now there is a semi panic in DC..the bad policy's of this government now starting to hurt..Bad signals we sent are the danger..If they think we are week, and are castrating our selves, For they see the US Gutting the Military, they will be embolden to do some crazy thing...Would have been nice if our missile defense system was not dismantled...Now of course...they are putting it back..at great cost and time..It seems Humpty Dumpty had a great fall, and all now are trying to put it back together again!....Now factor in IRAN,more nuclear Bombs,..Syria soon to be a one more Muslim American hater,Egypt, still getting huge HUSH money to Muslim fanatics...... Kim Jong Un sure knows how to turn up the heat.:ichile: Knowingly or unknowingly. Since he is the new inexperienced leader of the Hermit Kingdom,...some theories have arisen why he's behaving in such a brinkmanship manner. Sabre rattling?,.....N. Korea has been doing that for 60 years. Proving to his army generals and the general populace he has the ability to deal with the US and South Korea?,....probably. South Korea has a new president too,....a female no less. Kim Jong Un maybe wants to prove his mettle against her as well. Good time to test President Park Geun-hye!
Some say China is partially responsible for these latest provocations,.....testing out US's and ROK military strengths and weaknesses. I kinda' doubt that though. From what I've read,....China has a limited influence over the Democratic People's Republic. China has a LOT to LOSE if N. Korea goes actively ballistic.
Just like a petulant kid,.....Kim Boy wants to be recognized through the use of striking out in a childish behavior. Hopefully,...he doesn't start throwing his box of missiles around the place to prove his inherited worth.

Nothing is going to change until the North Korean military breaks with the leadership of the country and supports the rank and file citizenry. I don't see this happening anytime soon as their society is set up to where those in power can control all the basic essentials required to support life and enforce loyalty. When the citizenry and military says "Enough !" and is ready to revolt and die rather than continue to suffer their lot -- then things will change.

There are only 2 things that worry me about North Korea and "Fat Boy" Kim. The first, is Kim for real or is he just a puppet, if in fact he is just a puppet then who is the puppet master, who is the real power we are dealing with? The other worry is this, as history will show from Caesar to Hitler all Dictators or "Want to be Gods" have reached a turning point, a point of no return, which in their eyes is the winner take all "do or die moment" for example for Hitler it was 1939 Poland. If who ever is running the show in North Korea feels that this is in fact their moment in time, their "Poland" then we could be in for one bloody awful year.

one thing i keep thinking about over and over....prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour, many people in the USA and elseware had said..they wouldnt dare attack us,that little island isnt strong enough to fight us..they wouldnt stand a chance..ect ect....there was even a Japanese ambasitor and his contingant in washington DC at the time of the attack working on a "piece" thing..

and as ive said in other threads..im close enough to Beale AFB that if its a target,im in danger...there are a few small ridges between my home and the valley where beale lays, and those may give protection from the blast..but its still worrying to me...

You know I have taken to calling him "Fat Boy" Kim because being a ruler of a country where 75 to 80 % or more of the population is starving, you would think somebody would say "Hey Kimbo how about losing some weight like the rest of us" I suppose his answer to that would be "Let'em eat rice cakes". I guess sitting around and playing Atari "Missile Command" all day tends to really put the weight on you !

Is the lunatic on the grass?:mixedsmi: Couldn't resist the Pink Floyd reference ;)

See you on the dark side of the moon.

Cheers

Was reading in a daily newspaper here this morning that he learned his military tactics playing the X-Box.

There is the possibility that he (fat boy kim) cannot persuade his contempories that it would be a good idea to join the West (or S Korea) so why not declare war & be over run by the west & get all that aid.....? Just hope all his missiles are duds though....
Keith

Chubby Boy reminds me of the character that Dom Deluise portrayed in
History of the World, Part 1. I believe it was Ceasar?
