Time for new computer ... HELP!

Life is Good

A year old now and my iMac is fantastic for all win programs run on the Bootcamp partition. CFS3 boots up at about 30% faster and runs all settings at maximum flatout and smooth. Life is good....:jump:

there doesn't appear to be a clear answer to all this then. Some people run 64 bit (with either XP or Vista). I guess if I wanted to have a slightly more "FUTURE PROOF" system then Vista is the way to go (despite all the issues with Vista as an OS). Again if I wanted to make use of a heap of RAM then a Vista 64 bit OS is the way to go (as long as programs utilize the extra RAM and/or are just running faster due to the 64bit). So really I am still back to square one on this matter ......... :help:
Unless someone can clarify further or can put up a good arguement for and against ............

Caught between 2 worlds? You can always go dual boot. I have been running xp pro x 64 and vista home premium for a couple of years now. Make sure to partition your drive 1st and install the older OS first before Vista.

Ok so does that mean at system startup you choose either XP or vista and use whatever OS you want? Are you running Vista 32bit or is that 64 as well? Are you running any of the games I mentioned earlier (my son plays them but my daughter plays the Tomb Raider type games). I sort of need reasurance that there are no compatability issues with games and 64bit.
Sorry about all the questions:help:

During the boot process you select which OS you want to load. Both of my OS are 64bit. I run only CFS3 sims.

Ok so I see that CFS3 will run no problems with either XP 64 bit or Vista 64 bit. So that's sorted. I like the idea of a dual boot system though. I think what I might do is end up keeping my system as it stands now:
Antec P180 Case
Asus A8n Sli Deluxe mobo
Asus 7800 GTX Running in Sli
2 Gig RAM
Soundblaster Audigy 2

And use it for CFS3. If I was to buy a new computer, well there isn't a lot of price difference if I also buy another keyboard, mouse and speakers. Then I have two complete systems. Then I won't have to worry about CFS3 not running and can concentrate on getting a system that is for running todays games and programs. So with that said, are there any drawbacks with Vista at all?

Yes, it's yet another OS to learn when we'd got used to XP.... I dare say you'll get used to it as I will later in the spring, but I know where to look for things in XP and Vista wants to hold my hand to do just about anything. Just go away and let me do it! :isadizzy:

The infamous User Account Control or UAC is a pain. I export my model from gmax and want to copy it to an aircraft folder in CFS3, which is a drag and drop with XP, but Vista needs my express permission via two dialogue boxes before it will do it! Grrrrr.

hehe that sounds like me with XP but you can adjust Vista to Classic view or something cant you?
Thanks one and all for all the advice as well its much appreciated :ernae:
