You could locate Piglets carrier up there. I have his located in two areas at 210,00ft above Roosevelt Roads and MUGM NAS.

I would think it is...

* Create an effect that looks like flames, adjust its area for along the fuselage and wings zones
* Create a gauge to turn on effect
* Create parameters for flames to appear, such as
-speed
-altitude
-angle of attack

Thus, when you start to descend at such and such a rate, and your speed is 'blank' much, and you are above say 120,000 feet, then your flames kick in and you have re-entry.

I'm really lousy when it comes to programming anything. I once tried to create sort of heat blur effect for jet engine, but the result was something like snow coming out of the engines

Guys I need a little help on this one. I've tried everything I know to get this bird into space. I see posts on reaching M 4.0. when I take off in level flight at full throttle with AB lit, the max speed I can reach is 1571kias........how are you guys getting these amazing speeds ?

On a slow 5deg climb on max power I can get to about 70k, the higher I go the more the speed drops off........at 70K I'm at about 190kts.........nothing I do with the throttle seems to help.

Could this be an OS issue, I'm running WinXP SP3......don't see how but thought I would ask anyway.

I've tried 3/7 Charlie's tweak on the cfg file, made no diff.......I would appreciate any input on why I can't get this bird up as high as you guys.

Thanks

People, keep in mind that the flight models for jets are not the same in SP2 or in Acceleration.
Also, think about your fuel load when trying to climb.
Finally, some users here have modified the power of the engines in the aircraft.Cfg.

Nice to know I'm not the only one then lol..........hopefully one of the gurus can set this one straight.

Interesting, to be truthful I pressed the 'Y' key and then hit me Up Button, Climbed to 200,000 G, as soon as I ended slew she was uncontrollable and fell straight back down to mother Earth !!

Never been that High before !!

I was going to place a Mother ship up there, but not sure If I could even Land on it ??

Was a fun ride comin down !! :icon29:

Cheers !!

I have Acceleration, the engine modifications, and with fuel set to unlimited my fuel set to 1%. I still can't get much above 90,000 ft., though. Maybe 110,000 ft. in a zoom climb until i stall, but no better.

3/7 Charlie:: ??

are you using SP1 , or SP2/Acceleration - i noticed a significant loss of suborbital performance when i upgraded above SP1. I have been working on new sub-orbital cfg and airfiles for use in SP2/Accel but still haven't regained all the performance i used to have under SP1

and FSX atmosphere ends at 400,00 ft for the curious...

perhaps i should release this -->

Now this is interesting, maybe it's because I have acceleration that I can't get above 70K ft. If you can do some magic in the cfg file that changes this I for one would be happy if you posted it up.

Orion - SP2/Acceleration Sub-Orbital FDE

here it is , tested with Acceleration installed at full realism

http://fitzgeba.home.comcast.net/~fitzgeba/B-7072mod.zip

- stalls around 92kts w/ flaps up
- full throttle speed 1400kts at sealevel ; no afterburner
- Vne Mach 4.5 w/ afterburners
- bleeds off speed nicely and will sit still with brakes off at idle
- cruises nicely at 275,000 ft but a full power climb at 45 degrees ,
yeilds a nice sub-orbital parabolic trajectory just above 500,000ft
- a vertical zoom climb tops out at around 684,000ft
- full control authority thru entire speed envelope with high stability
- but remember ; NO atmosphere above 400,000 = loss of control surfaces

- you will need to program the Concorde ReHeat Key
- afterburners are manually ignited and not tied to throttles

Hey 32delta whiskey, Yep, I,m only running SP1 on this 'pooter. I think SP2 is where the trouble lies. In Sp1 the aircraft blasts along at 250K-550+K. Best altitude was 717+K, dry(no reheat) I get similar performance out of Xtreme prototypes X-15, and most of the other freeware space junk with some tweeking, usually the fuel flow scalars, to try to simulate mass flow, as a rocket engine of any sort depends on tossing mass out the back end. Probably not an accurate way to simulate it, but it does seem to work. Now I'm longing for an X-20, or a Spiral, or how about the MBB Sanger from the Mid '80's. Or HOTOL. How bout it Tim? Sigh. I guess I'll have to follow my own somewhat rancid advice and learn how to use the @%&!?&$%#* modeling tools. Man! I Dont know all of you developers manage it, but I thank you all, from the bottom of my black, shriveled heart!

" The arching sky is calling
Spacemen to their trade.
ALL HANDS! STAND BY! FREE FALLING!
And the lights below us fade.

Out ride the sons of Terra,
Far drives the thundering jet.
Up leaps the race of Earthmen,
Out, far, and onward yet-

We've tried each spinning space mote
And reckoned its true worth:
Take us back again to the homes of men
On the cool green hills of Earth.

We pray for one last landing
On the globe that gave us birth,
Let us rest our eyes on the fleecy skies,
And the cool green hills of Earth!"

Whoaho, many thanks DW, I"m off to install this and give her a try, will advise how it goes.

Nice one DW, finally I got over 1500 kts on level flight, got up to 350K ft @190kts. Next I'll try a more gently climb to keep good airspeed and get higher.
Many thanks for your work on cfg and fde.

X-20 Dynasoar is on my "list" somewhere. I did make a X-24A back in FS9 days. Maybe will work in FSX?

:ernae: Sweet :ernae:

Thanks DW, Cruised up nice to well above 300,000, Very cool, I could have kept going, but did not bring any Dizzy Bags with me !! Burp !!

32 Delta Whiskeys config gives nearly identical numbers in SP1, accelerates a bit faster, holds altitude at 350K quite nicely, though it could use a yaw damper. Well done. Glad to hear there is an X-20 in the pipe, Tim. Looking forward to that some day!Fractional Orbital Bombardment! BUWAAHAHAHA! I have not tried the X-24 yet, one of my faves from '02/04. I'll have to revisit that one! BTW, heres the preliminary mod for A/B effects and shockwave lights. still needs a little tweek or two,and the co-ordinates get messed up above 200K
entry below for an XML control. I am useing the effect and gauge from my IRIS F-4, but most any effect/XML controller can be substituted.

Checklist and flightplanning?

Thanks Tim for yet another exelent addon!

Since i dont read config, what "numbers" are you guys using when flying and plannign flights in this thing, fuelconsumtion, best rate of climb, approachspeeds, and stuff like that?

I have had a lot of fun flying this one a couple of days but would likte to be able to plan my flights a little more "real".
