Truk Lagoon

Fibber,

I've got a wood stove with a very efficient burn. When it gets down to 25F or so, I fire it up and it will keep the front half of the house toasty warm.

It was....

....60F and sunshine for us yesterday. But today just 50F and misty rain.....and I was complaining and thinking of moving to St Thomas. But compared to most of you guys, I'm already there. :surfing:

Hi !
Since three days we have the sun and the snow had disapeared, for us under 5 C° without sun,the most important, w're almost dead.......
Jagd and Ghost ,your french language became to be understable:caked:,....heu:173go1:......pretty fine :engel016: .

I hate to say it, but I can't get this scenery to work. :( All I get is a colored patchwork.

The challenge was mainly here ,how and what texture sets to use ? that was the question so the scenery is mainly a mix with two raw waterclass, the display, imbrication,of two differents texture set.
The AtollTruk scenery is the rebuilt of the stock waterclass for this area, to give to the atoll ribbon his placement, and you need to have in the.....\AtollTruk\texture the same six water texture bmps
007h2wa1
008h2wa1
009h2wa1
010h2wa1
011h2wa1
012h2wa1
that you have in your ........\Combat Flight Simulator2\SCENEDB\world\texture
The rule is that these six water bmps(exactly the same file bmps) must be commons in the two texture folders.
the ribbon reef set in the atollTruk atoll folder is just a suggestion cause , my opinion , it give a better contrast with the Fringing & Cay Reef Set use in the TrukIslands\texture folder.
you also find some various texture sets in ...\AtollTruk\texture as exemple and pics that show the results got.
But if you want keep yours original water texture bmps that you already use in your ....\Combat Flight Simulator 2\SCENEDB\world\texture,copy these six listed water bmps from it and paste them in the .....\AtollTruk\texture
This rule fixes the squared textures, due when two 007h2wa1 (for example) from two different tex sets are in contact ....
it's perhaps (surely) possible to mix three differents water,or land ,texture sets in the same scenery area but it's an upper level of complexity to make with only these six water textures bmp working in cfs2 .....
If I find time ,I could make a batfile, similar to work as,the old now,CFS2multiinstall,to use the various seasonal and other pactex texture sets that Stiz ,Otis and Rhumba had made since years,I've ever use it ,and worked fine, some time ago to change the .......\Combat Flight Simulator2\SCENEDB\world\texture before to launch the game that allow to flight in a desert, snowy etc... environnement.

Yup, that's what I did. I used the 6 Pactex textures and pasted them into the CFS2 Textures folder. the Scenedb world textures and the AtollTruk textures folders with no success. I just did it again just in case and included the TrukIslands' texture folder to the list. I'll give it another test later today :rapture: I'm too stubborn to give up :)

Cheers.

... :focus: Still working on Hailstone missions with help from Shadow Wolf 07!
In my hunt for additional and replacement ships I downloaded Usio's IJN Light Cruiser. Perhaps this would be a better historical replacement for the stock Mogami Class that I used in my Hailstone missions?

Already done, Bro! Even the correct names of the three CLs Sunk at Truk are on the list in the MB, so I used 'em...

Adding Scenery For Dummies

Help Jean Bomber,
Adding scenery to CFS2 has never been one of my strong points. :help: I am lost at Step 4. I think it is because of the choices and which folders they should be in. Could you possibly give instructions to install your Truk scenery exactly as it shows in the screen shots on post No.45?
Thanks, Dv

I don't know how add more explanations that I've did with Shadow ,the step 4 it's about the choice of the texture set to use .
the four texture folders in .....\AtollTruk\texture are some exemple that you could use for ,but the main rule is that the six water bmps listed(exactly the same file bmps) must be commons in the two texture folders.
.....\AtollTruk\texture and ........\Combat Flight Simulator2\SCENEDB\world\texture.
The .....\TrukIslands\texture folder must stay like it is.(it's possible to change it too ,but I don't know about the results got)
In the screen shots on post No.45 I use the "Ribbon Reef " Set in .....\AtollTruk\texture and in ........\Combat Flight Simulator2
Personnaly I like also the Sand&Rock&Coral Set ,just my opinion...

Please Bear With Me...

Well, I already had Jimko's Pacific textures installed. I copied and pasted Ribbon Reef in \AtollTruk\texture and in \Combat Flight Simulator 2\SCENEDB\world\texture. In the Atoll Truk folder there is a total of eight .bmp's counting the Lagoon.bmp's that were already there. Is this correct? At this point, the scenery shows this way in the attached pic of Moen.

I think it's about the custom lines
"custom_lines
Place the two texture bmps waveshoresu.bmp and coralsu.bmp in your ...\Combat Flight Simulator \SCENEDB\world\texture
and (VERY IMPORTANT)
in your...\Combat Flight Simulator 2\TEXTURE "

or if you already do it ,it's my fault I've forgotten to precise in the read me :173go1:

place also the lagon1 and lagon2
in your...\Combat Flight Simulator 2\TEXTURE "
if necessary
also in ...\Combat Flight Simulator \SCENEDB\world\texture

all this could be resolve this.;)......I hope

I was seeing the same thing as dvslats posted in his screenshot. I went back in, posted the lagoon1 and lagoon2 as JB instructed above. I even deleted the filelist.dats on each folder just in case and started the game in FF. No joy, I got the same results as before... dvslats colored patchwork. Oh well... I can live with the stock atol scenery and the Pactex textures. :wiggle:

Hey Ghostrider... Where'd U get that Rufe from? :help:

Hey Ghostrider...

The Rufe is not a stock plane... I'm pretty sure you can find it at simviation.

So I understand - I think I was remembering the stock Rufe in shhh... IL-2 Pacific Fighters (some sim I used to fly before I saw the light and came back to CFS2) I think I'm dumping the Rufe anyway, as it doesn't seem to want to dogfight - would make a nice ground target, though.... Hmmm.....

My dog's name is Rufe... wanna shoot him??? :faint:I'd shoot you first!!! :173go1:

What Rufe are you talking about?

He's working on an Operation Hailstone (strikes on Truk) mini campaign. the missions he sent me to test had a Rufe. That's what I wanted to know. I don't have one and was wondering where he got it so I could D/L and install the beast. It's moot now, since he doesn't intend to use it.

perhaps from the "87 DAYS OF CACTUS" BY CARL GULDE
there is one called Nakajima Rufe_Rev............?

Getting There

An improvement....to show how I have gotten this far just in case others are having the same problems. JB, have moved your two scenery files in the Scenery Library as far to the bottom of the list as they will go. This gave 90% cure to my previous screenshot. :Banane44: Only need to get the outer coral ring to show correctly. Almost there...Before Jagd had posted a screenie of Library Hierarchy. I do not have it anymore but remember this sequence from it now. Gotta love those bannanas. Things are falling togther better now after a solid 7 hrs. sleep. This is looking real good Jean.

I don't get into CFS2 any more but could not resist this thread. Truk Lagoon has always been a place of interest to me. One of my favorite Uncles growing up, saw his first battle action there as part of the crew on a fleet oiler. I have this book by William H. Stewart, named: "Ghost Fleet of Truk Lagoon". Attached are some maps and pics from the book which may or may not help someone here.
