SOH-CM-2025
My wife left me just before lunch to attend a luncheon with the words, "You're on your own for lunch", as she walked out the door. No problemento, I am a big boy.

An hour later I opened the refrigerator to make my lunch of choice, a sandwich. I stood there in complete shock for 30 seconds. There was no bread, no ham, no cheese, no nuthin. I had been gone all week and she saw no reason to buy any of them. What am I going to eat???

After my shock wore off, I realized that not all was lost. I still had beer. I then begin to dig for something to eat. (not eating wasn't an option) I found some frozen specialty Cajun dishes and decided to heat up one. It look really good in the picture on the carton.

Well............

Below is a photo of the carton and the actual food inside.

LOL, it might have looked like the pic if you hadn't have stirred it up :d

yeah, I get things like this occasionally, usually it's the amount being less and not so much the picture not matching. I actually worked with a food photographer a few years back for some menu shoots. It was amazing what they added to edible food to get it to look like it does for images, so I don't take any box images seriously.

lessee you have beer ya have any eggs?
those foods suck
get a fry pan chuck that in it
add beer eggs ya got frozen peas, corn or something
hot sauce if ya have eggs its an omelet
survival takes over
a man has to eat
been there done that:salute:

"Truth in Advertising"????
No such thing John.

On the subject 'very ordinary' food (aka crap!) my youngest brother was so pissed at his lunch yesterday (Saturday Oz Time) that he snapped several shots of it with his mobile and announced to the hospital staff that he was sending them off for 'Scientific Analysis'!!!
The only difference between the blobs on his plate appeared to be the colour!

I can't say I disagree, Hospital 'Food' can be pretty average, more so when it is blended into soft textures as required for Stroke victims.
Of course, we (The Family) just by bypass the system and look after his meals ourselves, so he is eating and eating 'Home Cooking'.
And his medical team are happy with our input, with two Registered Nurses and a full time Specialist Doctor in our family circle there is very little chance of any arguments that can be put forward.

As for "Truth in Advertising", I ceased taking notice of "Adverising" way back, in fact, I can neverquite understand why so much money and time are wasted on it.

I have some of those in my freezer...they taste okay with proper seasoning. Just close your eyes when you're eating.

How about when you buy granola in a box, granola cereal... Its half empty? Now, they could say that its for the cereal to keep from getting crushed, like in potato chips. But...... They are in a dang bag!!! Not in a solid box structure...

That just isnt right. Thats like getting a regular can of soup and opening it to find its half full. Why sell it half empty... Just wrong. Rip-off!!

John, I think that dinner was indeed 'not right' and you should email the company. Maybe even send the photo. Be sincere and bring it to the owners attention. You never know. Maybe he cares and his lower people dont and he didnt know. Means heads might role. Maybe the assembly line ran out of bits and they said 'go ahead and finish the rest of the products.' Thus, this will show the big guy that the assembly 'dropped the ball'.

I wrote that burrito company once that make those frozen burritos you buy at Wallyworld, (blue bag, $2.99 for 10 or 8). Told them I was impressed with their new healthy version burritos and they wrote back, told me about their other ranges..

Bill

Everytime I walk into a Burger King or McDonalds (Doesn't happen that often anyway!) and see the photos I am reminded of a scene in 'Falling down' where Michael Douglas orders a burger..

The shrimp kind of shrunk! :icon_lol:

LOL Those truly are "shrimp."

I told my wife it was "Shrimp etouffee flavored rice"

No matter. This afternoon I am doing a Seafood (while we can still get em) Gumbo. You are all invited to come over and eat. Just RSVP so my wife will know how many place settings to put out.

You guys should have come over. Here is what you missed. Mush better, I think, than the other picture.

:jump:

Looks good John!

Watching the cooking shows today?

Bill

I have been cooking most of my life Bill. Between my wife and me, there isn't much we can't cook. We sometimes joke about opening a restaurant. But we both know that is too much work.

Doing something like that would take all the fun out of it too ...

That second dish you posted looks yummy ... I haven't had a good gumbo in a while.
Yer a little light on the salad though ... lol!

I've often wondered if the folks who write the "directions" for preparing some packaged foods have ever actually followed their own directions...

For example, every box of (whatever) that specifies 1 2/3's cups water and 1/4 cup milk ends up being thin and watery....

...even after simmering about 20 mins longer than directed!

Reduce the liquid by about 3/4's cup and it turns out just right!

Having been professionally trained in the distant past as a chef, I dearly love to cook 'from scratch,' but since I cook only for myself these days, it's rare that I bother. I do fix a mean lamb curry about once a month, and a Polynesian style sweet-and-sour pork dish about as often... :ernae:

Bill, those dishes sound wonderful. Especially the lamb.

We freeze the leftovers. That gumbo was six quarts. Much of it will be frozen in quart ziplock bags, until we are ready for more.

As long as we're talking guys and cooking ...

On an open grill my specialty is steak, doesn't matter the type.

In an oven, I make a mean Lasagna.

On the stove, my spagetti and lasagna sauce is to die for.

;)

Damn. Now I'm hungry.
