TukanFlightsim Ford Trimotor AT5 Released!

Good price too! I might just have to replace my stock version, but I'll hold off until I hear more.

I'm sort of regretting the purchase, a little. The models and the texturing are fantastic. However, I'm not a fan of the prop discs (I think they could be toned down more - an easy fix). Also, the exterior glass looks odd to me, with a very flat/matte finish. The sounds are okay - not bad, but not great. The flight dynamics are pretty good - the first time I flew it, I had 50% fuel in the tanks and went balls-to-the-wall with the throttles on takeoff, and it accelerated and got to takeoff speed a lot faster than I expected it to. Putting full fuel in, and using only 30" MP on takeoff, it feels more correct in the acceleration. The handling in the air feels pretty much like what I'd expect. It's a very simple, straight-forward-to-operate MSFS aircraft. You can open the passenger door and the cockpit side windows, but the sound doesn't change.

For those interested, there is a very nice video review of the Trimotor here:

I took a look at the manual, from what I see there is no option for an autopilot, is that the case? While I love these vintage airliners, the prospect of doing a long flight with where I need to hand fly the whole way is not very interesting to me anymore.

It has an autopilot switch, next to the battery switch, however there doesn't appear to be anything else to correspond with it. When in flight and turning on the autopilot switch, it just makes the aircraft hold a climbing turn to the right, and I don't know how one would adjust this (I almost never use any autopilot systems).

The odd and rather FS9 looking prop disks did initiate some critical comments with the last video post. Guess the suggestions went unanswered. Been flying the Asobo trimotor which seems just fine given how little time this aircraft receives.

During engines start you'd expect all kinds of stuff start rattling and shaking about inside an old and weary office like that of a Thin Goose. Pity that the dev let this chance go by particularly because very good care seems to have been taken of the cockpit otherwise. Pretty good engines sound as well. (be it that the external fly-by sound is just rediculous, not even the slightest hint of doppler effect, the sound just fades in and out... hehe) The prop anims need a substantial fix indeed. It's these seemingly not so important details that often miss the boat obviously because the project is at its end run and the devs got a bit tired of it. "Fly away little paraquayo" as the French would say..

Not bought it yet (comments just by viewing the well done video) but i certainly will. :encouragement:

Jumped in and bought it. The texturing is stunning. Near photographic in detail. The developer claims more to come for this model. But where are the chickens? Just empty crates, a bull whip, fedora and kitchen sinks. LOL

I was rather enjoying it, yesterday. Today, I'm really enjoying it.

When the autopilot switch is turned on, my Loupedeck AP is activated, so the functionality is there. I know there are default AP controls within the sim itself, because the DHC Caribou mod uses them. Can't remember them off hand, but for those interested it's worth delving into it. Altitide hold, climbing and descending to a set altitude, rate of climb - they all work. Haven't tried the nav mode yet; that's a pleasure still to come. Heading hold works, but it slowly hunts 1 or 2 degrees either side of the bug. I suppose it averages out and you get to where you wish, but well worth keeping a VFR-eye out for landmarks below, just to be sure.

There are weak points as already mentioned; the prop discs for example. Also, the engine sound seems to go quiet just as you move the throttles forward from idle, before recovering to a nice throaty roar. The engine start-up could be a bit more hesitant and smokey. There is a flickering effect in the passenger door windows when the door is opened. But the flight model is docile, and can be trimmed quite easily. Cockpit and instrument lighting is very good. As DVJ says, the texturing is stunning - you'll rarely see better on a vintage aircraft.

I liked the Aeroplane Heaven Trimotor, but it'll now be fondly retired in favour of this Tukan model. I hope they do a little more development and refinement, because there is a masterpiece in the offing.

According to the FS Forum Room chat, the developer has indicated much more to come. I do hope the sound set and prop disks can be addressed even if just minor tweaks. The fine details are amazing when you do a close up inspection. Beckett's demo is interesting.

The corrugations are all in the texturing, not modeled - some very good normal maps! One way to see this is so is to move the camera back to the trailing edges of the wing, tail, control surfaces, etc.

Thanks for clearing that up John ! Actually good to know because i still couldn't believe it.. hehe I still think it's a fantastic effect and extremely well done. I should've thought of the amazing things that can be achieved with the sophisticated texturing procedure in MSFS today. But also kinda liked the idea that it had to be 3D. I removed my post about it because it was nothing but a wild Thin Goose chase. 🥴

And so would George Baker.....

A great addon! It definitely needs a bit of polish here and there. But it is already the best Trimotor for MSFS (y)

Haha , cruising in a dc-3 with George Baker. I can think of some other persons if it has to count for the best time of my life. ;)
