'Ugly Trend: Too Many Arguments & Too Little Fun'

civility

What we are looking for and not remembering how to be, is called, being "Civil" to each other. Having different views, opinions, obcessions, desire, needs, etc. and wanting to express those is fine. What we forget is how to do it in a civil manner. basically the golden rule of do unto others as you would have them do unto you. So when you disrespect, harrangue, belittle, make sport of, make hurtful comments and attacks, You are really saying it is okay to do it back on you (only it is not okay). If you do not like that, then be Civil to each other. I, like Panther have only rarely been simming in the past few years, I've returned recently and am saddened by some of the verbage I read...Gentelmen we share a hobby, a passion, a love of flight and the equipment and tools that make it enjoyable. Let us try to remember that.

And John....Yes! your are the "Mr.T" of the simming world :jump:

Ol'Jarhead:wavey:

You see Panther?? When you come around, the lights get brighter. It doesnt matter if its in Newshawks or here. its you, not the forum. Your part of the cure, not the dis-ease.
heh, trust me. I was born a bonifide freak of nature, and ive been on the recieving end of bullies all my sixty and almost one years. You gotta be tougher than them. You gotta ignore them. Let their **** slide off you like water off a duck, and be yourself. That is to say, be the you that you love being. And do it unabashedly and without apology. Believe me, if we all did that, the bullies and idiots would soon disappear, because it takes courage to be yourself, and they're a bunch of cowards..

Oh, and by the way, I spent a few days on the Avsim forums recently, just to get my 10-yearly shot of adrenaline and came running back to SOH here and my own forums elsewhere. Panther, if you haven't been THERE for a while, you ain't seen nothing yet ! :icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:

Thank you John Terrell the Real Mr. "T"....What .with the recent interest in "RED TAILS", a fine model like yours is timely....Cheers!...Vin

Yes,
I've been away from simming for about 2.5 years but I do pop my head in from time-to-time. And what I've seen is disturbing & depressing. It appears to me that the days of camaraderie & fun simming are gone. What's replaced them are ugly wars in words & lack of respect.

Remember, we all got into this because of the pure fun of it - let's not forget our roots (remember those days) and get back to the pure fun of flight simming
. :mixedsmi:

FWIW you see this on most all on line forums now. Not just flight simming and cetainly not exclusive to SOH. I participate in quite a few other hobby type forums and it's the same there. The internet has made everyone an expert and all those experts don't like to be wrong........

Something is definately up in the community. All I see is complaints, way exaggerated expectations regarding new and existing products, arguments and payware. Oh, and constant whining about what Flight! should be and what P3D apparently isn't and what XPlane can never be and on and on and on...
Oh well, not much left to be done here.

Panther, if you haven't been THERE for a while, you ain't seen nothing yet ! :icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:

My e-mail inbox contained a message from Avsim today, saying that they "haven't seen me in a while" and "would be happy if I checked into the forum again".

First thought: "As if..."

I know one thing... the only way this thread gets uglier is if P starts bringing in his Panzers!!!!:kilroy:

SOH is still a friendly place to be around and for the occasional moron or jackass, there's always the Exclude list. Drop the name there and all you know is someone shot his mouth off again, but you need never see what he shot: it's so peaceful.... :mixedsmi:

Too little fun?!!

I dont think i have ever seen FSX more exciting and at least the feedback on this forum is passionate. Just think of what our fantastic devs are doing for us - most are really pushing he envelope to give us something fresh.

Im proud to converse with everyone who contributes to SOH - even if i disagree with them!

PS - im playing a farming sim at the moment which is very relaxing but if you want to see the dark side - then visit some other games's forums - its ugly!

Farmsim eh? :icon_lol: I rather like that one myself...... and baggersim, and demolition sim, and bus sim...... heck, I don't have enough time in a day to do all my simming !

You haven't lived until you've tried Forklift Sim - sold in game shops here, honest!!

I'd rather hit myself with concrete blocks ... over the head ...

Someone once told me that you don't have to have anything big to argue about. No matter how trivial, the arguement will grow as big as the size of the egos of the participants. ...don't be the last one to offer the olive branch.

Words to live by. I haven't made it yet, but I'm trying.

Jim

Humans aren't really predisposed to peacefull coexistence, but we try, for the most part. Something irritating will always pop up.

I'm avoiding the drama bus. I refuse to respond in that light.

I will however, say this.

I can honestly say that, I have never been more gratified in the hobby of flightsim, than the feeling of contributing my skills and knowledge into a freeware/community project. A bunch of members get together with a goal in a common direction.

End result; fun, sharing, caring, learning, curing.

Mostly, enjoying the smiles, gratification and thank-yous in return. To me, That's a heart-warming experience to endure.

Guys,

I can only agree with Panthers original statement.

Over the last few years, I've got more into scale aircraft modelling and in particular, Britmodeller which has a great community. It reminds me of how flight simming used to be, lots of friendly banter, little ego and people remembering that hobbies are about having fun. Of course there will always be flare ups as on line there's little consequence, but it's a hobby, not a life and death scenario !

If I want friction, I go to work....in fact I go there anyway even if I don't want it.....now that sucks....lol

There seems to be an underlying tension here quite often and as such, I don't visit as often, I urge people to have fun, lifes too short.
