Virtavia A-4 Skyhawk available

Hi Rich ,

in the cfg ...// A-4E/F Skyhawk Flight Dynamics by mal
// 1 Nov 2012 ver.2.3 : final release version

Cheers

I had the privilege of several backseat rides in NATC TA-4s in the early 70s. Sooo much fun! Oftimes the pilot, usually USMC, would try to get me sick. Not happening. The more barrel rolls, high speed turns, flips, etc... they would execute, the more fun it was!! Working on the Skyhawk was simple, easy. When I went through maintenance training at Millington, TN, the Skyhawk was what we learned on. Egress AND Environmental systems were basic. Dependable too.

I compare sitting/riding in the Skyhawk cockpit to the comfortable feeling of wearing a snuggly fitted glove. Definitely NOT an aircraft for a portly-built pilot!

I think my most memorable ride was a hop, flying dogfight maneuvers with another USNTPS (US Navy Test Pilot School) aircraft. Think of the best roller coaster ride you've ever been on, times 100 :salute:.

Navy Chief
Sounds familiar! The pilot of my first Phantom ride(VMFA-251, F-4J) handed me a large ziploc, and said: "You're gonna need this son!"
Thankfully, I never needed it!
Yessir! Roller Coasters don't hold a candle to flying behind a 1,000+ hour Phantom or Scooter Jock. :gameon:...Don

Does that mean the version being sold on Simmarket currently is older? 1.1? NC
I'll ask Phil. But anyone considering buying this or any other Virtavia title needs to buy it from FS Pilot Shop at flightsim.com because it is curently half off for another week (about $22 for the A-4). You can't go wrong with this model for that price.

Guys, after completing the beta tests I got FDE ver.2.6 from Virtavia - I have this line in the 0-1 clean config aircraft.cfg: // 3-2-2013 ver.2.6 FDE updated.

I guess it takes some time till all vendors have installer v.1.1 - I just checked my account at PC Aviator and I still get v1.0.

Too late. Already bought from Simmarket this morning. Are there updates for version 1.1, or will Virtavia provide support in this case to allow for a second download? Wondering.....NC

Hopefully the sale is at other places as well?

v1.1 was sent to all resellers this week. The .msi file you download will say ‘v1_1’. If yours doesn't try downloading again. There is no way to control how quickly the resellers freshen their files.

I think I am confusing the version of the Installer with the version of the aircraft itself? My installer file version is indeed 1.1. NC

I purchased the A-4 from Flightsim Pilot Shop this morning.

Here is what the download page said: File Last Updated: Tuesday, 06th November, 2012 @ 12:10pm

The download zip file is called VRT-480.zip, and it appears to be version 1.0.

Guess we have to wait for them to update the download to version 1.1

Installing Virtavia Skyhawk into P3D

If I want to install the Skyhawk into P3D as well, is it just a matter of copying directories over to P3D? When I initiate the installer again, it is asking me if I want to Repair or Remove.... NC

This is probably a stupid question BUT, I just purchased the A4 from The FlightSim store and the Virtavia site says that a Paint Kit is included. I cant seem to find it after the download and install, Any Hints ?

Installing direct to P3D is not an option with the installer. So yes, just copy over all the folders and files for the A-4 in FSX to their counterparts in P3D. That said, it should work in P3D but that was never the intent and you'll be hard pressed to find the text "P3D" or "Prepar3D" on the Virtavia website. So there may not be any tech support either. But if you have any questions, please ask. If you have any solutions, please share.

Just downloading the v.1-1 now. I guess there is a readme.txt file with info?

Nope - the the PDF manual - nothing there about any changes - however some incorrect info (especially about the former bad AoA Indexer) has been changed, always a good thing.
I think that the only thing that was changed that also effected the manual. Low lying fruit I guess.

Installer Updated To Ver 1.1

For those you bought the A-4 at fspilotshop, the installer has been updated to ver 1.1.

I don't seem to be able to shut down the engines on this bird. Is this a known issue or is it just something I am doing wrong. I can't find any reference to this on the net.

Did you follow the procedure in the manual? I know my throttle is kind of noisy so I calibrate with the 0 and 100 percent positions just a tiny bit off the stops. Otherwise, I get a couple of percent off either end in FSX.

"Throttle Lever and Fuel Shutoff
. The throttle is used in the usual way to apply or reduce power. However it also doubles as the Fuel Shutoff Valve and is so used to stop the engine.

ENGINE SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE :

Set throttle to IDLE. It is best to press the F1 key as throttle must be at 0% fo rthe shutdown to work, some controllers do not always go fully to zero.

Carefully position the mouse pointer over the small black button on the end of the throttle lever. Look for the ‘Fuel Control Switch (open)’ tooltip.

Use a RIGHT MOUSE CLICK on the button and the throttle will do a dog-leg movement back into the shut-down position and the engine will spool down. Tooltip will now say ‘shut’".

Forgot to mention that the real A-4 had this "dogleg" kind of stop. You had to force the throttle outward against a spring and then backward to shut off the engine which prevented inadvertent shutdowns. The ignitor switch was actually out there on the outside of the throttle track, so for an airstart (possibly even a regular start...I can't remember) you would "bang" the throttle against the microswitch and bring it around the dogleg in the track. In the training command it was referred to as bringing the throttle "around the horn"...the horn being that little stop.

No mouse clicks involved...thank God! ;)
