Virtavia Phantom II Reloaded for P3D v 4.5+ PBR

Very good to know, thanks a lot Thomas.

The one in the Virtavia_F-4_Cockpitsounds folder
are the version 1.0 1.0 from 28.06.2017.

It would be great, if a V5 user can check that please.
Please download the latest version here

https://www.douglassdawson.ca/dsd_p3d_xml_sound_x64.zip

and copy the "dsd_p3d_xml_sound_x64.dll" gauge into the existing
Virtavia_F-4_Cockpitsounds folder and overwright the old one.

Thanks in advance

Ulrich

It's not a gauge issue. The RF models in Pack 32 work fine, and if I substitute an RF model for one of the others that would normally cause a crash, for example the GR1 in Pack 31, then that will work.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the support.
If i understood you right, all works well, if you startet with the RF models and loaded then other models like Gr1 or others ?
Would you please be so kind, to deactivate the following entry in the panel.cfg of e.g. Virtavia F-4 Phantom II Pack 12 pack
and test if this models crashes, when they are loaded first.

[Vcockpit01]
//gauge01=Virtavia_F-4_Phantom!F4LegControl, 1,1,1,1

Thanks in advance
Ulrich

btw
do you have working cockpit click sounds?

No, only the RF models work. I took one of the RF mdls and put it in the GR1 model folder and editted the model.cfg to suit. Then I can load the GR1, but obviously it's using the wrong model. I haven't installed any of the gauges yet as I'm trying narrow down the problem.
As a further experiment, I loaded the GR1 model into mcx and removed all animations, attached FX, vis tags etc, but it's still crashing.

I have retried loading the models again and agree with Dave if you use Pack 32 it has no issues, however the other two packs will crash V5. But appears all OK in 4.5 per my screens.

Think I've narrowed it down to a texture issue. If I replace the "metallic.dds" file with another one I can get the Pack 31 Phantoms to load, but still having trouble with the pack 12 ones.

I had not yet installed any of the packages, until this AM. Reading the thread, I installed the latest DSD sound dll. My first aircraft loaded was from pack 12, The B model, VF-51 CAG aircraft. Loaded fine, cockpit sounds worked fine. Using ctrl+e to start, it went through the starting routine for each engine fine. One circuit around Miramar NAS no trouble. Only thing I was missing was exhaust smoke. None. Oh, and landing gear would not retract. I think I oversped them on takeoff. I did have a problem with textures loading real slow, when cycling views.

I am using P3Dv5.

Thanks Don,
I really appreciate your support, that sounds pretty promising that not all is lost. LOL
The landing gear react only until 250 kts, so nothing wrong here.
The loading time frame for the textures could be caused by the situation
that the sim has to collect all needed textures from three different folders.

Did you have any others issues, e.g. a gyro effect with the afterburners after turn or bank or something like this ?

Thx
Ulrich

Didn't have time to do more testing, so don't know. Just did the takeoff and left hand circuit to landing. (Incorrect, should have been right hand circuit.) Will post about that when I get to try it out. I did notice that when the ABs kicked in on takeoff she swerved hard right. I was so busy correcting that that I passed by 250 kts before even getting off the ground, (flying from external view,) and passed through sound barrier before 1 mile from runway! Sonic boom and vapor cloud worked!! But no exhaust smoke when pulled out of AB. I was in the USAF, around the C, D & E. The C & D would start smoking almost immediately after coming out of AB. My memory could be a little fuzzy, but I seem to recall the E's newer engines didn't smoke nearly as much.

I have no smoke in the PBR v1.1 using P3Dv4.5. What I did was map the smoke coordinagtes to the lights section so the smoke starts with the beacons lights. If you have the SWS Phantom, that has a very thick black smoke effect you can use.

Did you copied the content of the "Effects_P3D" folder to the Effects folder in your sim ?
It contains the needed "fx_smoke_f6.fx" effect.

The aircraft.cfg entry for the smoke effects has to be

[smokesystem]
smoke.0 = -19.00, -2.25, -0.80, fx_smoke_f6
smoke.1 = -19.00, 2.25, -0.80, fx_smoke_f6

it will controlled by the
Virtavia_F-4_Phantom / Smoke gauge

panel.cfg entry for the smoke effects has to be

[Vcockpit01]
gauge00=Virtavia_F-4_Phantom!Smoke, 1,1,1,1

just like it is present in the actually version.

I installed everythimg exactly as instructed into p3dv5. Was a clean iinstall, using the pbr folders as instructed. I had not installed any of the other releases, however I did do a fle check for older files, just in case. No exhaust smoke. Nice AB and sonic boom effects, but no smoke. Cockpit sounds all working.

Thanks a lot for reporting, Don
Perhaps the smoke effect file isn't compatible with V5.
You can check that, if you hit the "I" key for smoke effects,
or install an other P3Dv5 smoke effect, if avaible in your main
Effects folder.

I am still :banghead: on pack 12 and 31, cannot get it them to load at all.

I can pick from the pack and goes back to the main screen where you pick the fight details, the plane icon turns and the screen just freezes on me.

Thanks very much Ulrich - that's clear (and also easy to do).

Just took VF-114 up for a spin and the PBR finish looks sensational. Between this freeware Phantom and the freeware RFN Crusader and dozens of paints one is very spoiled for choice if like me you like hot carrier jets from this era.

Great work all!

Me also. Primarily XP but love the Crusader and the Phantom brought me back to P3D. Phantastic job on both!

I think, i've just detect the culprit for the issues.
There is a corrupt file in the Virtavia_F-4_Cockpitsounds Folder,
which caused the issues.
It was the " F4_KeyEvent_SND.xml " file.
In my Installation it is okay, but in the download file it is corrupt.

Please replace the attached file after unzip into the "Virtavia_F-4_Cockpitsounds"
folder and overwright the corrupt one.

My last idea to solve the probs would be
to add this smokesystem entries to aircraft.cfg

[smokesystem]
smoke.0 = -19.00, -2.25, -0.80, fx_smoke_f6
smoke.1 = -19.00, 2.25, -0.80, fx_smoke_f6
smoke.2 = -9.19, -2.30, -1.15, fx_reheat_AlphaPhantom_fire_FSX
smoke.3 = -9.19, 2.30, -1.15, fx_reheat_AlphaPhantom_fire_FSX
smoke.4 = -9.19, -2.30, -1.15, fx_reheat_AlphaPhantom_short_FSX
smoke.5 = -9.19, 2.30, -1.15, fx_reheat_AlphaPhantom_short_FSX
smoke.6 = -9.19, -2.30, -1.15, fx_reheat_AlphaPhantom_long_FSX
smoke.7 = -9.19, 2.30, -1.15, fx_reheat_AlphaPhantom_long_FSX

If that doesn't work, I'm at a loss. :banghead:
